Navjot Sidhu has been handed a one-year prison sentence by the Supreme Court of India which was reviewing a case involving the former India batter in 1988 in which one Gurnam Singh died.The verdict was announced on Thursday by the two-judge bench comprising Justices A. M. Khanwilkar and Sanjay Kishan Kaul which was reviewing its own order from 2018 when the court had reduced Sidhu’s sentence from three years’ imprisonment to INR 1000 fine.”We have allowed review application on the issue of sentence,” the court said on Friday, according to legal media website . “In addition to fine imposed, we impose a sentence of imprisonment of one year to be undergone by respondent 1(Sidhu).”The incident took place on December 27, 1988 in the north Indian city of Patiala in Punjab when Sidhu pulled Gurnam, who was 65 years old, out of his vehicle and assaulted him physically with his fists.According to , Justice Kaul was also part of the two-judge bench in 2018, along with Justice J Chelameshwar, which had acquitted Sidhu of culpabale homicide. However, four years ago, the court did find Sidhu guilty of “voluntarily causing hurt” to Gurnam.The court back then had reversed the judgment of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which in 2006 had found Sidhu guilty of culpable homicide and sentenced him to three years’ imprisonment. The Supreme Court bench, though, thought the High Court’s verdict was based on conjecture and not pure evidence.”…the conclusion of the High Court that Gurnam Singh’s death is caused by subdural hemorrhage but not cardiac arrest, in our opinion, is not based on any evidence on record and is a pure conjecture,” Justice Chelameshwar had said, according to , “We, therefore, find it difficult to sustain the conviction of the first accused and set­ aside the same. Because to find a man guilty of culpable homicide, the basic fact required to be es established is that the accused caused the death. But, as noticed above, the medical evidence is absolutely uncertain regarding the cause of death of Gurnam Singh.”

The report goes on to state that Mendez has a deal at the La Liga side until 2028 which has a release clause of €60m (£50m) inserted into it.

Brais Mendez could be John McGinn 2.0 for Aston Villa

In La Liga, the 27-year-old has showcased his talents by creating two big chances, averaging 1.1 key passes per game while winning 4.1 total duels each match, proving he can contribute effectively going forward and defensively.

Analyst Ben Mattinson heaped praise on the player at the start of 2024, saying he was “seriously underrated” which suggests he could be an ideal player to bring in next month to rival long-serving captain John McGinn.

The Scot has missed just four games all season for Villa, registering six goal contributions in the process and is one of Emery’s most consistent performers.

According to FBref, McGinn is the third-most comparable player to Mendez, which suggests that Emery could be signing a player with significant talent should the 27-year-old move to England next month.

Indeed, this season, the pair have registered similar statistics across a range of metrics in their respective leagues, such as goals and assists (both with three), total shots (18 vs 19), shot-creating actions per 90 (2.68 vs 3.14) and tackles won (11 vs ten).

Bringing in another midfielder in January would take some of the pressure on those currently in the squad and, with Mendez showcasing the same sort of attributes as McGinn, it might be a wise investment by the club.

INEOS and Man Utd working on Osimhen deal

If United do want to kick on from the weekend’s draw with Liverpool, they will no doubt need to use the January transfer market to bolster their squad, which is both lacking in quality and hampered by injuries. Fortunately, according to a new report from Nigeria, United’s owners, INEOS, are already on the case.

Business Day Nigeria claim that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and co have already made “preliminary moves” to sign Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, and that the striker, who came close to joining Chelsea in the summer, is now ‘keen’ and ‘determined’ to move to Old Trafford this month.

Osimhen is halfway through a season-long loan with Galatasaray from Napoli, but the Nigerian publication reports that his spell in Turkey could be cut short if a permanent buyer can be found.

The report states that Napoli has inserted a £75 million release clause into Osimhen’s contract, £8 million of which will be given to Galatasaray if he leaves early. However, with Napoli keen to sell the 26-year-old while his value remains high, that clause could be dropped to £62 million to facilitate a move to United.

Osimhen has been thriving since his move to Rams Park in the summer, scoring 13 goals and registering five assists in just 16 games for Okan Buruk’s side. Speaking to the media after scoring twice in a 3-2 win against Tottenham in November, Osimhen said that he “will not leave” Galatasaray in January, but that may have changed going off the latest update.

“I am at Galatasaray until the end of the season. I do not know what Galatasaray and Napoli are talking about afterwards, but if they come to me, we will talk. Galatasaray is a nice club that I like very much. I am very happy at Galatasaray.”

Segundo a Conmebol, Vítor, e por consequência o clube, infringiram o artigo 5.1.11.6, numeral 2 do manual de competições da Conmebol. O artigo informa que caso os atletas não retornem do intervalo no tempo estabelecido, o time e o técnico da equipe serão advertidos.

O Alvinegro também foi advertido por descumprir os artigos5.3.2; 5.3.3.2 e 7.3.4.5. O primeiro diz respeitoà chegada do time na cidade em que a partida será realizada. O clube deve chegar no local da partida pelo menos 24 horas antes do jogo.

Contudo, em casos onde o jogo é disputado em uma cidade que está dois mil metros acima do nível mar, o visitante pode chegar até seis horas antes da partida, como foi o caso contra o Always Ready, já que La Paz, local da partida, está situada3.625 metros acima do nível do mar. Mesmo assim, o clube brasileiro descumpriu a regra.

O outro item do mesmo artigo no qual o time do Parque São Jorge foi notificado fala sobre uma reunião no dia da partida, pela manhã, onde é obrigatório a presença de um chefe de imprensa, oficial de segurança, um representante da parte médica do clube, um membro da área técnica e um responsável por questões administrativas do clube.

A ausência de um desses integrantes causa a advertência. No entanto, o comunicado emitido pela Conmebol não informa quem deixou de participar da reunião

Já o artigo 7.3.4.5 dizque os times devem iniciar a coletiva de imprensa aproximadamente 15 minutos após o término da partida, com a presença obrigatório do treinador e um jogador. No entanto, o comunicado emitido pela entidade não especifica qual das partes desse artigo o Timão infringiu.

Caso o Corinthians volte a descumprir qualquer um dos artigos citados, o clube pode ser multado emcinquenta mil dólares (aproximadamente R$ 247.000 na cotação atual) por cada artigo infringido.

He is not the only arrival that the Blues are closing in on, as they have agreed on personal terms with Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush.

But they don’t look to be stopping there, as Football Insider have reported that funds have been made available so City can look to sign Aurelien Tchouameni from Real Madrid. The Frenchman has been filling in at centre-back this season, as he’s yet to nail down a starting spot in midfield, so City are looking to take advantage and may look to make a move in the summer, but face stiff competition from Liverpool.

As the Blues have their eyes on players to improve them now, according to a report from Spain, Man City have also set their sights on signing Jeremy Monga from Leicester City, a player tipped to have an incredible future ahead of him.

Monga is only 15 years old, and he is a product of Leicester’s academy, playing for their youth team before moving up to their under-18s. The teenager, who can play on the right-hand side of the attack as well as behind the striker, has been impressing in Premier League 2, as he’s provided goals and assists in a handful of games.

Monga is considered to be one of the best wingers of his generation, and City are looking to secure his transfer ahead of his first professional contract.
