According to The Daily Mail, Tottenham rejected the chance to swap want-away midfielder Christian Eriksen for Juventus forward Paulo Dybala in the summer transfer window.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the north Londoners were in negotiations with the Italian champions over a deal for the 25-year-old striker this summer, but the move fell through after Juventus decided that they no longer wanted to sell the Argentina international.

The Daily Mail reports that, during negotiations, Spurs were offered the chance to swap Eriksen – who is of interest to Juventus – for Dybala as Mauricio Pochettino hoped that the Denmark international would put pen to paper on fresh terms.

The former Ajax man is yet to do so however, and has rejected a number of contract offers from Spurs – Eriksen is said to be unwilling to accept any new proposals from the club.

A truly baffling decision 

The cold, hard facts are as follows.

Eriksen has already confirmed that he would like to leave the club. He isn’t signing a new contract. Dybala is a world-class forward who would be a welcome addition to the club – his goal record of 103 in 288 games speaks for itself.

Pochettino could’ve killed two birds with one stone by accepting this swap deal. The former Southampton boss would’ve been able to offload a player who doesn’t want to be at the club and simultaneously bring in a brilliant forward who would add real quality and depth to Tottenham’s strike force – which is somewhat lacking beyond Harry Kane after Fernando Llorente’s exit.

How Pochettino thought he would be able to change Eriksen’s mind is a mystery to us, and in taking such a big gamble on his own persuasion techniques he appears to have missed the chance to snap up a player worth an estimated £76.5m, whilst also increasing the chances of losing a player currently valued at around £90m for nothing.

Tottenham’s rejection of this reported transfer proposal is, quite simply, baffling.

وتابع: “رأيت برشلونة في مباراة باريس سان جيرمان ينهار، وإذا كنت مسئولًا في النادي لأتحرك في صباح اليوم التالي لحسم التعاقد مع جريليش!”.

وأضاف: “لن يهمني قيمة الصفقة، لأن جريليش سيتألق كثيرًا بقميص برشلونة إذا انتقل إليهم”.

الجدير بالذكر أن هناك اهتماما كبيرا بضم جريليش من قبل الأندية الإنجليزية وعلى رأسها مانشستر يونايتد، ليفربول وتشيلسي.

أكد باسم مرسي لاعب مصر المقاصة الحالي، أنه عندما كان في صفوف الزمالك كان يعد أفضل من المهاجم مصطفى محمد المحترف في صفوف جالطة سراي التركي.

وقال مرسي في تصريحات تلفزيونية عبر فضائية “النهار” ببرنامج “أوضة اللبس”: “بالأرقام باسم مرسى نسخة 2014 أقوى من مصطفى محمد في 2020 مع الزمالك، هو لاعب جيد ومهاجم محترم، في 2014 أحرزت 18 هدفًا، لكن مصطفى هذا الموسم أحرز 8 أو 9 أهداف فقط”.

وتحدث مرسي عن زميله السابق في بتروجيت ومهاجم الأهلي الحالي مروان محسن، قائلًا: “هو لا يضع نفسه في المنطقة التي يمكنه من خلالها إحراز أهداف، بسبب أنه يخشى إضاعة الفرص وضغط الجماهير”.

وأضاف: “هذا الأسلوب يختلف عن وليد أزارو الذي يمكن أن يهدر 3 أهداف ويحرز هدفًا، ولكن بالنسبة لي مروان أفضل من أزارو، الأول دائمًا يلعب كمحطة لذلك أهدافه قليلة، ويجب عليه أن يركز ويقاتل في الأهلي”.

وكشف: “لعبت مع محمد صلاح في نادي عثماثون طنطا، كان طيبًا جدًا ولكن عندما خرج للاحتراف في أوروبا اختلف تمامًا وأصبح شخصية قيادية، ولم أتخيل أن يصل لهذه المكانة، وكل ما حققه بفضل الطموح”.

وأردف: “محمود شيكابالا حاول أن يتوسط مع أحد المسؤولين في الزمالك لكي أعود إلى النادي”.

واختتم: “تشكيل منتخب مصر المثالي من بين اللاعبين الذين لعبت معهم في 2014، عصام الحضري، وحازم إمام وأحمد دويدار وعلي جبر ومحمد عبد الشافي، وطارق حامد، وحسام غالي، ومحمد صلاح ومحمود شيكابالا وعبد الله السعيد وعماد متعب”.

Speaking to MUTV, Victor Lindelof has revealed what it will take for Manchester United to reach the “next level”.

What did he say?

The Sweden international has been Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s preferred option to partner summer signing Harry Maguire in central defence this season, but the Red Devils still have an abundance of options waiting in the wings.

Now, Lindelof has admitted competition for places at the back will inspire the United side to greater heights, and keep them on their toes.

He said: “We have very good players in the squad and everyone wants to play. In the first two games, we’ve been playing that back five (David De Gea, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire and Luke Shaw) and have been performing well but it’s hard because you always have to perform well.

“It’s because there is always someone there who wants to play but that’s part of football. It’s very important for us and good for the team to have that. It’s very important for a team to have competition for places. If you don’t have that, then maybe you don’t push yourself to the next level. It’s what we’re doing every day right now and also what will take us to the next level, I think.”

Pressure

Sometimes, competition can be all it takes for a player to step their game up. Maguire’s big-money arrival has meant the rest of United’s centre-backs are competing for just the one spot now, and that will inevitably see people rising to the occasion, or crumbling under the pressure.

What is perhaps interesting about the defender’s comments is just how little the idea of “competition” applies to United’s forward options though.

Romelu Lukaku’s exit and Alexis Sanchez’s potential departure means the Red Devils are awfully light at the top, and is perhaps a big reason why someone like Jesse Lingard continues to disappoint. Why would the England international fear losing his spot in the team when there aren’t too many ready-made players keeping him on edge?

So, whilst United’s defence may see the benefits of competition for places, the attack may suffer from a lack of it, which is surely the first thing they must address in next year’s transfer windows.

Bobby Duncan completed a move to Fiorentina on transfer deadline day and Liverpool fans have reacted heatedly to a social media post from his agent Saif Rubie.

Many have criticised Rubie’s skill as an agent or questioned if he has done what is best for Duncan’s career, given the 18-year-old only joined Liverpool a year ago, and is now on to his third club.

Rubie caused a stir last week when he suggested the Merseyside outfit bullied his player and accused them of mistreatment by indicating they were refusing to sell him for an acceptable price.

Fans had previously looked forward to Duncan’s progression. Not only is he Steven Gerrard’s cousin but he also scored 25 goals in 36 appearances for Liverpool youth last season, a record which allowed him to feature for the first-team in pre-season this summer.

Now, fans have accused his agent of chasing the money, and the reactions below show just how critical of him they have been.

وأفادت الصحيفة أن جاريث بيل ليس على استعداد لتقديم أي خدمة لنادي ريال مدريد، حيث يصل راتبه في الموسم الواحد إلى 30 مليون يورو، ولكن رفض الويلزي لأي تخفيض نوع من أنواع الضغط على النادي الإسباني ليرحل مجانًا في آخر سنوات عقده والتي تنتهي في يونيو 2022.

ويدفع ريال مدريد نصف راتب بيل مع توتنهام، وفقًا للاتفاق بين الناديين، ويأمل الملكي في الاستمرار على هذا النحو في الموسم المقبل من خلال إعارة جديدة أو استمراره مع كتيبة جوزيه مورينيو.
