O Vasco anunciou na tarde desta quarta-feira que irá participar da edição 2017 da Florida Cup, nos Estados Unidos. O time de São Januário poderá enfrentar na competição o arquirrival Flamengo, que também irá ao torneio de pré-temporada. A estreia cruzmaltina, porém, será contra o Barcelona de Guayaquil, do Equador.

Com isto, o Vasco volta aos EUA após 18 anos. A última vez que atuou no país foi em 1998, quando enfrentou duas vezes o DC United pela Copa Interamericana. Na história, a equipe de São Januário disputou 14 partidas em território estadunidense. O retrospecto é positivo: nove vitórias, três empates e duas derrotas.

As outras equipes já confirmadas são os alemães Bayer Leverkusen e Wolfsburg, o River Plate, da Argentina, Tampa Bay Rowdies, dos Estados Unidos, e Corinthians, do Brasil.

Celtic’s clash with their Old Firm rivals on Sunday will predictably be a heated affair.

John Kennedy has already admitted that the Hoops will not form a guard of honour for the champions when they travel to Parkhead.

Given their rivalry it’s unsurprising, but if the tie wasn’t already spicy enough, that will have certainly turned up the heat.

The Hoops have close to a full bill of health heading into the clash but one player who won’t play a part is Christopher Jullien. Unfortunately, they could also be without Greg Taylor.

The Scottish full-back sustained a muscle injury against Ross County last month and hasn’t been seen in the side since.

Speaking before Celtic’s clash with Dundee United two weeks ago, Kennedy said: “He’s not trained this week, so we’ll still be missing him.”

Taylor was spotted on social media kicking a ball in Hoops training this week, which Kennedy then confirmed on Friday. However, according to The Scotsman, the game could still come too soon for him.

This represents a huge blow to Celtic’s chances of securing all three points on Sunday. That’s because they’ll have to rely on Diego Laxalt again.

The Uruguayan hasn’t quite lived up to expectations following his loan move from AC Milan last summer. Stepping in for Taylor last time out, he delivered an incredibly mediocre display.

The left-back was lax in possession of the ball, surrendering it on no fewer than 22 occasions, the worst tally for anyone in green and white. On top of that, Laxalt completed just 72% of his passes.

He was torn to shreds by Lawrence Shankland and then from an offensive point of view, he missed a straightforward chance to score in the first half. The ball was worked out to his left foot but from inside the area, he blazed the ball wide of the target when he had the freedom of the box.

Rangers will give Laxalt a much tougher afternoon than Shankland did so Taylor will be a considerable miss if his fitness is indeed lacking.

Kennedy will have every right to be scared about Celtic’s left-hand side for this match.

The Athletic’s Leeds United journalist Phil Hay has recently talked about Patrick Bamford not getting called up for the England national team.

The 27-year-old hasn’t been called up for the England national team and Luke Ayling has also missed out, although Kalvin Phillips has earned a call-up once again (BBC Sport). Hay has discussed Bamford’s situation and how he’d likely be feeling right now.

Bamford will be ‘extremely disappointed’

Hay recently talked about Bamford’s situation, commenting on one of The Athletic’s Q&A sessions for the England selection.

The journalist made it clear that he did think Bamford’s chance would come this time around and it could’ve happened if Gareth Southgate had looked at him from up close. He also said that this could’ve been now or never for the Leeds forward.

The journalist made it clear that, if getting 13 Premier League goals under Marcelo Bielsa doesn’t get him into the England side, it is tough to see how a chance will come otherwise. Hay also said that playing for England was Bamford’s personal dream and he’ll be ‘extremely disappointed’ about being overlooked this month.

Hay told The Athletic: “From a Leeds United perspective, it would have been a surprise to see Luke Ayling selected, as good as he’s been this season. Southgate is fairly well covered in that position. But I did think this would be Bamford’s time – if only to give Southgate the chance to look at him up close.

“I wrote on here [for the Athletic] a month or so ago that it felt like now or never for Bamford. If 13 PL goals under Bielsa can’t get his foot in the door, it’s quite difficult to see a point where his chance will come. Knowing him, he’ll be extremely disappointed about this. An England cap has become a bit of a personal dream for him.”

Not the end of the world for Bamford

While it would be disappointing to not get called up to the Three Lions squad despite him having scored 13 Premier League goals and getting six assists as well, but the Englishman is still only 27.

He has scored a substantial number of goals under Bielsa at Elland Road since arriving, which suggests that he could keep doing it in the future as well and there’s signs of that from the recent past, too.

While the call-up didn’t come about this time around, perhaps Bamford should stay patient and keep performing at a similar level.

O histórico no futebol internacional, segundo o diretor adjunto de futebol do Corinthians, Eduardo Ferreira, foi um dos diferenciais pela contratação do volante, que chegou ao Timão prometendo “raça argentina”.

-Experiência internacional foi algo que agregou muito na minha vida, tenho uma bagagem que me dá determinada experiência. Acredito que agregou muito na questão da raça, da vontade. Sempre tive futebol muito aguerrido, mas lá tive que me adaptar a eles e trago meu estilo de ser para o Corinthians. Humildade para marcar, correr. No que depender de mim raça e vontade não vão faltar – disse o volante, agradecido pela oportunidade de defender o time que torce.

-Falar de Corinthians é difícil e fácil ao mesmo tempo. A dimensão faz trazer palavras que você consegue usar. Alegria, ansiedade de querer estrear logo, tudo está aqui dentro. وقال كوتينيو في تصريحات نشرتها شبكة “بي بي سي” العالمية: “افتقدت هذه المباريات والدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز، أنا سعيد جدًا لوجودي هنا مع زملائي الجدد في الفريق، لقد كانت بداية جيدة، ظللنا نؤمن حتى النهاية ولم نخسر”.

Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa is making a big mistake over Rodrigo amid a major transfer update on the Spaniard.

What’s the story?

After arriving from Valencia in a big-money deal last summer, the Spain international has struggled to really hit the ground running at Elland Road, managing just three goals in 20 Premier League games.

Spanish publication Fichajes.net have now claimed that the £18m-rated forward isn’t happy with his situation at Leeds and that, with him not playing in his preferred position, he is of the belief that he’s “not a relevant figure” for Bielsa.

The report added that the 30-year-old stands to lose his place in the Spain squad for the European Championships and wants to leave Elland Road to preserve his hopes of making the tournament.

Bielsa making big mistake

Whilst Rodrigo hasn’t exactly set the Premier League alight with his performances this season, there should be no way Bielsa even contemplates letting the summer signing go.

Not all new arrivals hit the ground running, and Rodrigo certainly falls into that category. Spanish football expert Guillem Balague declared the versatile forward as being “perfect for Bielsa” in the summer when Leeds’ interest in the 29-year-old emerged, and the club just have to remain patient with him.

The forward could develop into a potent Premier League force if given the chance, and it’s exactly why Bielsa must avoid the disaster of cutting the club’s losses on him far too soon.

Dubbed “extraordinary” by former Barcelona boss Quique Setien, Rodrigo needs to be given the chance to be played in his preferred position and really showcase what he can do.

Playing him in an unfamiliar role and then expecting him to shine, like Bielsa appears to be doing, raises big questions about why Leeds moved for him in the first place, and it surely must have Andrea Radrizzani fuming that one of the club’s marquee signings already wants out.

وأضاف: “لا أستطيع أن أتخيل كيف يمكنهم السماح له بالرحيل مجانًا بعد نهاية عقده، أو حتى بيعه بأي مقابل مادي، لا يمكن أن يحدث ذلك نظرًا لما يقدمه محمد صلاح”.

وأكمل: “محمد صلاح قال إنه لا يطلب أشياء مجنونة للاستمرار، والأمر سيكون صعبًا على الجمهور إذا حدث ورحل عن ليفربول”.

وأكمل: “محمد صلاح سينظر حوله إلى لاعبين آخرين في الفريق، سيعرف ما هي قيمته بالنسبة لـ ليفربول، وهو بالفعل في وضع قوي للغاية”.

وشدد: “كلما طالت المدة، أصبح موقف محمد صلاح أقوى لأن عقده يقترب من النهاية، ولا يمكنهم السماح له بالمغادرة مجانًا”.

Morreu na manhã desta segunda-feira, aos 57 anos, em Santa Bárbara d´Oeste, interior de São Paulo, Mazolinha, ex-atacante do Botafogo, vítima de infarto. Ele morreu em casa.

Ele entrou para a história do clube em 1989, quando na final do Campeonato Carioca, contra o Flamengo, fez o cruzamento para o gol do título, marcado por Maurício, que tirou o alvinegro da fila após 21 anos.

O sepultamento será nesta terça-feira, às 14h, e o velório acontece a partir das 16h desta segunda, no Cemitério Municipal de Santa Bárbara d’Oeste, sua cidade natal.

Vágner Aparecido Nunes, o Mazolinha, nasceu em 1959 e começou a jogar futebol profissionalmente tarde, apenas em 1986, pelo Rio Branco-SP. Além do Botafogo e Rio Branco, também atuou por Avaí e Santo André. Antes e depois da carreira nos gramados, ele trabalhou como pedreiro em Santa Bárbara.
