Borna Barisic has shared his anger at comments from John Kennedy ahead of the Old Firm derby this weekend.

The Gers face Celtic on Sunday in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup. In the build-up to the clash, Kennedy said that, on his day, Celtic are the best team in Scotland – despite them trailing the Gers by 20 points in the Premiership table (BBC).

During the Gers’ pre-match press conference, Barisic revealed his disbelief at the comments. He said (via otbsports.com):

“I didn’t hear the comments but I read the interview beforehand and I think that is the biggest joke I heard this year.

“They didn’t win against us in three games and we are 20 points in front of them, so it is disrespectful a little bit to us. That’s my comment on that.

“You need to be in life always realistic. If someone is better and if someone is 20 points in front of you, you just don’t talk like that. It is disrespectful for all the things we do this season.

“It is not only from him. I know a lot of people talking about Celtic’s situation with COVID-19 and all of these things. It’s like we’ve lost five games or we are just five points in front of them. “We are 20 points clear in front of them, we didn’t lose a game this year. It is disrespectful to talk about anyone and changes. I am talking about this season. That’s it.”

Stay calm

There is no doubting the comments are bizarre. While this has been an abnormally poor season from Celtic by their recent standards, Rangers have been by far the best team in the country and more than deserve their Premiership title. Even close to their best throughout the season, Kennedy’s side would have had problems keeping up with the 55-time Scottish champions.

However, there is little use in Barisic getting so worked up about the comments. He and his team have the chance at Ibrox to prove once again that they are the superior of the two sides. The £4.95m-valued Croatia international (Transfermarkt) should let his talking be done on the pitch.

In an exclusive interview with The Transfer Tavern, Rob Lee, who made 343 appearances for Newcastle United, has claimed that Arsenal will be looking to receive £25 million for Joe Willock, who is currently on loan with the Magpies.

Willock has impressed during his short spell on Tyneside which has led to reports suggesting Newcastle will be looking to bring him back next season, either on loan or on a permanent basis.

The on-loan midfielder has been the subject of reports suggesting that his parent club will be looking for £20 million if Newcastle want to sign him, with the Gunners needing to raise funds if they are to sign Martin Odegaard in the summer.

Speaking on how much Arsenal will want for Joe Willock and what Newcastle have to be careful of during negotiations, Lee told The Transfer Tavern:

“They’ll probably ask for £25 million and that’s the problem these days.

“You look at some players and think, ‘is he worth it?’ There has to be some sort of range where clubs aren’t willing to go past to sign a certain player.”

Willock had been a mainstay since joining from Arsenal, even scoring on his debut, however Steve Bruce has dropped the 21-year old for their last three games.

This is the £20,000 per week midfielder’s first time spent away from Arsenal having come through their academy, and he has already made 78 appearances for the Gunners.

Leeds United have reportedly reignited their interest in Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez, with Marcelo Bielsa rating him highly.

The Whites are believed to have made an offer for the 25-year-old last September, but he ended up staying put at the Serie A club.

It appears as though Bielsa is still potentially keen on acquiring Nandez’s signature, though, with a fresh report suggesting as such.

Leeds eye up Nandez move

According to Cento Trentuno [via Sport Witness], Leeds could be willing to trigger Nandez’s €36m (£31.35m) release clause at Cagliari, with Roma also believed to be interested in the midfielder.

Bielsa thinks that the £22.5m-valued Uruguayan (per Transfermarkt) ‘would fit perfectly’ into the Whites’ system, with his agent Pablo Bentancur once describing him as a ‘great player’.

Nandez seems to be a tailor-made Leeds player given his tenacious style, with the Uruguayan averaging 1.7 tackles per game in Serie A this season. He is also effective on the ball, averaging 1.2 dribbles per match, which is more than Kalvin Phillips (0.8) and bettered only by Raphinha (1.9) among Bielsa’s current squad.

At 25, Nandez is also at a good age, enjoying plenty of experience in Italy with 62 Serie A games under his belt, but still arguably having the best years of his career ahead of him.

Leeds United have been boosted in their attempts to sign Sampdoria centre-back Omar Colley, with the Serie A club needing to sell players this summer.

Marcelo Bielsa could be a busy man in the next transfer window, as the Argentine looks to continue adding to his squad.

The Whites are having a season to remember back in the Premier League, sitting ninth in the table and taking five points from their last three games, against Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United.

One player who has been linked with a move to Elland Road is Colley, with the 25-time capped Gambia international impressing at the heart of Sampdoria’s defence.

Sampdoria could sell Colley this summer

According to Club Doria 46, the Serie A side may have to sell key men this summer, due to financial problems, with 6 foot 4 monster Colley one of their three most prized assets.

The 28-year-old could cost Leeds around €10-€15 million [£8.7-£13million], which would allow Sampdoria to balance their books. This comes after transfer guru Nicolo Schira confirmed earlier this month that the Whites have enquired about the defender.

While Colley is clearly a player with undoubted pedigree given his experience both in Serie A and at international level, centre-back doesn’t feel like an area that needs strengthening at Leeds.

Bielsa already has Liam Cooper, Diego Llorente, Robin Koch and Pascal Struijk to call upon, so a fifth option in that area feels like overkill, especially when the financial implications of the pandemic could leave teams penny-pinching and being smart about which signings they go for this summer.

Leeds’ summer transfer kitty should be spent in other areas, such as left-back and in wide attacking positions, rather than on another central defender, a position they already boast a good mixture of experience, quality and youth.
