Chamara Silva, the Sri Lanka middle-order batsman, gave a timely reminder to the national selectors that he is prime form by hitting 163 off 180 balls for Sri Lanka Development XI on the opening day of the three-day practice match against the tourists at the SSC.Silva scored 1000 runs for Bloomfield in the domestic Premier League Tier A tournament but is unlikely to come under consideration for the first Test against England in Galle next week. The last of his 11 Tests came against West Indies, in Trinidad, during 2008 and with the emergence of Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews and Chamara Kapugedera, Silva has been pushed aside but made the most of a chance to impress.”This innings was no different to how I batted throughout the season. I didn’t do anything different and the runs came my way and I kept going,” he said. “The difference is that this was a Test bowling line-up and you don’t receive too many loose balls. The bowlers’ names don’t matter to me very much. Whoever bowls he bowls the same ball. If you play the correct stroke to every ball you will score runs.”Silva was slotted to go in at No. 3 and was already walking out to bat while the first over of the innings was in progress after opener Malinda Warnapura had fallen for a duck to the third ball.”Going out to bat in the first over was a big challenge for me,” Silva said. “I had to face the new ball but I was able to negotiate it because of the form I was in. I started to middle the ball from the very first delivery I faced. As much as England bowled well I also batted well.”Silva was especially aggressive against the spinners and Graeme Swann, England’s No.1 slow bowler, went wicketless while conceding over 100 runs. “I play spinners differently to others,” Silva said. “I won’t let a spinner dominate me I always try to make him do what I want.”England appeared rattled by the way Silva attacked their bowlers in very hot conditions by driving, cutting, pulling and hooking them to all parts of the field. “When wickets don’t fall the opposition sometimes gets rattled. England has a good world class bowling line up with some big names in it but if you do your part right it is not so difficult to score runs off them.”

علق ريفالدو كويتزي، لاعب وسط فريق كرة القدم الأول بنادي صن داونز الجنوب إفريقي، على مواجهة الأهلي، في بطولة دوري أبطال إفريقيا.

ويحل الأهلي ضيفًا على صن داونز السبت المقبل، ضمن مباريات الجولة الرابعة من المجموعة الثانية، في الثالثة عصرًا بتوقيت القاهرة، على ملعب لوفتوس فيرسفيلد.

وكان صن داونز قد تعادل في مباراة القاهرة مع الأهلي بملعب استاد الأهلي وي السلام، ضمن الجولة الثالثة، بهدفين لكل فريق، ويتواجد في المركز الثاني برصيد 7 نقاط بفارق 3 نقاط عن المارد الأحمر صاحب المركز الثالث، ونقطتين عن المتصدر الهلال مع مباراة إضافية للفريق السوداني.

وقال ريفالدو في تصريحات نقلها موقع “كيك أوف” الجنوب إفريقي: “مباراة الأهلي ستكون صعبة، نعرف ذلك تمامًا، إنها مواجهة هامة دائمًا كلما واجهناهم”.

وأضاف لاعب وسط الفريق الجنوب إفريقي: “نتوقع صعوبة المباراة لوضع الأهلي في المجموعة، خاصة بعد الفوز الذي حققه الفريق المصري أمام القطن في الجولة الماضية، ولا أعتقد أنهم في المركز الذين يريدون أن يكونوا فيه”.

وأكمل: “من حيث النقاط، ليس هذا ما كان يسعى له الأهلي، لذلك سيأتون إلى جنوب إفريقيا من أجل الفوز، وهو ما سيجعل المباراة صعبة بالتأكيد”.

ريفالدو كويتزي، لم يشارك في مباراة استاد السلام أمام الأهلي، وكان على مقاعد البدلاء، كما هي العادة في جميع مباريات الفريق هذا الموسم ببطولة دوري أبطال إفريقيا.

أعلن مارسيل كولر المدير الفني للفريق الأول لكرة القدم بالنادي الأهلي، تشكيل اللاعبين لمباراة المقاولون العرب والمقرر إقامتها بعد قليل.

Panesar claimed 14 wickets in two Tests against Pakistan in the UAE and continued that good form with 6 for 69 in England’s first warm-up match in Sri Lanka.Swann claimed three wickets in the same game and is likely to continue his spin partnership with Panesar in the two-Test series against Sri Lanka but he accepted, with England likely to only play one spinner at home, he will not retain his place by default.Asked if he was bothered by the competition, Swann said: “I’m not. I think it’s quite a sad existence when people start looking over their shoulders. I always enjoy bowling with Monty and we complement each other quite well because I take it in [to the right-hand batsman] and he takes it away.”If in the summer Monty is bowling better than me and he gets picked then fair play to him. Of course I’ll be hoping to be the man in possession but if you spend your whole life just looking over your shoulder I think you’re a fairly sad individual. The BCCI has begun its investigation of the corruption charges against five players, with Shalabh Srivastava deposing before its inquiry commission in New Delhi.The hearing was conducted by Ravi Sawani, head of the new anti-corruption wing announced by the BCCI on Saturday. Sawani, whose last job was heading the ICC’s ACSU, has been given 15 days to carry out his investigation and report to the BCCI.Srivastava, part of the Kings XI Punjab squad before his suspension on Tuesday, was allegedly caught on tape negotiating a fee for bowling a no-ball; India TV, which carried out the sting, ran the audio of the tape and showed footage of a player bowling a big no-ball in a limited-overs match. Srivastava has since denied any such incident.No official comment was made on the hearing, which was held at the Maurya Sheraton hotel. It is believed that while Srivastava attended in person, and was seen at the hotel for more than an hour, the rest were contacted over the phone.Sawani – who forms the one-man committee – will give the players time to present their defence both in person and in writing. It is also understood that at this stage there will be no legal personnel involved on either side.This will be Sawani’s first test, less than a week after his appointment to the job and before he has had time to either become acquainted with workings of the board or assemble a team.The other players suspended by the BCCI are Mohnish Mishra, T P Sudhindra, Amit Yadav and Abhinav Bali. Mishra remained in Pune, where he has been suspended by his IPL team Pune Warriors. However, a Warriors official said he was being given “the benefit of doubt” until his case was completely heard.Another franchise, Kings XI Punjab – which has two players, Srivastava and Yadav, implicated in the sting – issued a media release, stating that it would support the investigation and abide by any decision eventually taken by the BCCI if any player was found guilty. The statement echoed comments made to reporters by the team captain David Hussey.Meanwhile, India’s sports minister Ajay Maken said the BCCI’s probe should go deeper than just the five players. “I have already said, and I am emphasising again that BCCI should go into the root cause of the problem,” he said. “Suspension of five players is not enough. BCCI has to come out with a long-term solution to sort out this mess.”He also suggested that the BCCI should de-link itself from the IPL, citing the example of football’s English Premier League. “IPL should be at a arm’s distance from BCCI. It should not be under BCCI. IPL and BCCI should be away from each other so that there is no overlapping of interests,” he said. “If you look at English Premier League and other leagues world over, they always have distance from their parent sports federations.”
