Levy Eyeing 53 y/o Postecoglou Alternative For Spurs Vacancy

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy still has the former Barcelona boss, Luis Enrique, on his managerial shortlist as the search continues.

Who will Spurs hire as manager?

What was a huge underwhelming 2022/23 campaign for the north London side has finally come to a conclusion, however, the work has not stopped for Levy.

Indeed, the Lilywhites have now been without a permanent manager since Antonio Conte's exit back in the latter stages of March this year.

Since the Italian's exit, Cristian Stellini stepped in as the interim boss and following his exit, Ryan Mason took the reins until the end of the campaign.

But now it is time for the chairman to bring in a new permanent boss who can lead the Tottenham project with the club seemingly crying out for a reboot.

One name which has climbed to the top of the Lilywhites' shortlist is Celtic's Ange Postecoglou with the Australian impressing during his first two seasons at Parkhead.

However, speaking on his Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano has claimed Levy still has his eyes on Enrique who is dreaming of a job in the Premier League:

"Postecoglou is in the list. And from what I understand, Luis Enrique remains in the frame. He's a name that was in the list at Tottenham when Fabio Paratici was there. Then Fabio Paratici resigned, but he remains a name appreciated internally at Tottenham. Luis Enrique dreams of Premier League."

Who should Levy hire for Spurs?

It is believed the Australian is currently on a rolling one-year deal with Celtic which would mean Spurs could potentially prise him away from Paradise for free at the end of the campaign.

The Bhoys have a big cup final coming up this weekend which will provide the 57-year-old with the opportunity to land the treble in what has been a mightily impressive 2022/23 campaign/

However, there will be concerns over his lack of experience at the top level.

This is something which would not be a concern with Enrique given the Spaniard has lifted numerous trophies during his time at Barcelona.

But whether Enrique would bring the desired style of football to north London is another matter with the Spaniard's time in charge of the national side coming crashing to an end at the World Cup.

In comparison, Postecoglou has instilled an exciting brand of football at Celtic and has done so with a number of signings he has made with the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Reo Hatate and Jota.

Now, this raises another question, the Spurs vacancy would provide him with the opportunity to operate in the transfer window on a much bigger scale.

His time at Celtic has been largely a success as a result of his recruitment from the Japanese J-League, could he translate that success into a much bigger operation that is a Premier League budget?

Enrique may provide Levy with an opportunity at quicker success, however, that has not worked over recent years with the likes of Jose Mourinho and Conte.

Celtic Could Hire Their Own Arteta In 3-4-1-2 Manager

Celtic are in the market for a new manager after Australian boss Ange Postecoglou departed Glasgow this week.

The 57-year-old completed the domestic treble with the Hoops last weekend with a 3-1 win over Inverness in the FA Cup but ended up putting pen to paper on a deal with Spurs on Tuesday.

This means that the club now need to source a replacement for him and Football Scotland recently reported that Manchester City are braced for an official approach from the Bhoys for first-team coach Enzo Maresca, with staff expecting the Scottish giants to make a move for the Italian.

The publication has revealed that majority shareholder Dermot Desmond was impressed after speaking with the tactician in 2021 but ultimately went for Postecoglou. However, the Celtic chief is now interested in another round of talks with the 43-year-old ahead of a possible deal to take over at Parkhead.

Would Enzo Maresca be a success at Celtic?

Maresca could be a big success with the Hoops with Desmond potentially set to unearth his own version of Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta.

The Gunners boss spent over three years working as Pep Guardiola's assistant at The Etihad and has been able to use what he learned from the legendary tactician to turn the north London giants into an exciting side to watch in the Premier League, whilst achieving success.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal play fluid progressive football, with pundit Danny Murphy hailing them as a "joy to watch".

Since the Spaniard took over in Islington, they have won the FA Cup and Community Shield, and finished second in the top flight, running winners Manchester City close for the title.

His style of play has been compared to Guardiola's in the way his players interchange positions across the pitch to create space and move the opposition around to create chances and dominate games, suggesting that he learned a lot from the City chief.

Maresca could follow in his footsteps and have a similar impact on Celtic if Desmond affords him the time to build a squad capable of playing the way he wants to play. Indeed, Arteta finished eighth in his first two seasons with Arsenal before it finally clicked.

Whilst the 43-year-old has limited experience and it is impossible to say with certainty that he would be a success, Guardiola believes that the Italian has a bright future ahead of him. He said:

"We are delighted with what Maresca has done. He’ll be an extraordinary manager in the future – like I felt it with Arteta. He's developed many young players that will help us. It will depend on how many stay and how many leave. Who we sign."

Guardiola was right about the now-Arsenal boss and this bodes well for Maresca, who deploys a 3-4-1-2 set-up, and his hopes of becoming a first-team boss.

If the Italian tactician is capable of following in Arteta's footsteps and turning a side into a Pep-esque team who are a 'joy to watch' then Celtic fans should be excited for each game knowing that the Hoops will likely play in the same manner as Postecoglou's teams of old.

Fabrizio Romano Shares Man United Takeover Claim

Manchester United were hopeful of getting a potential change of ownership over the line ahead of the summer transfer window openings.

What is the latest in Man United's potential takeover?

The summer transfer window is now open and the Red Devils have a number of players who they are being heavily linked to.

Indeed, it is believed the Premier League giants are seriously keen on potentially bringing in Mason Mount from Chelsea over the course of the coming weeks/months.

Chelsea are said to be open to selling Mount but would only do so at the right price as they are believed to hold a £68m price tag over their homegrown talent.

It is thought Mount is open to joining United this summer but whether they will be able to reach an agreement with the Londoners remains another question.

This comes amid the ongoing debacle surrounding the ownership status of the club following the Glazer family putting United up for sale last year.

The two leading parties in the proposed race to take over at Old Trafford remains Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

However, there still seems to be no major movement from the current owners with both bidders believed to be waiting for a breakthrough.

And speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has claimed there were some who were hoping this would have all been resolved in time for the summer window:

"But also another crucial point is about the ownership. The expectation was to be now at this point of June with new owners probably in charge of Manchester United and so to attack super top targets for the new striker, but this is not the case.

"So we have to wait and see what happens on that situation that remains ongoing in terms of process and conversation. But we have to wait and see how long it will take to change from Manchester United in terms of owners."

What is Man United's transfer budget?

There have been some reports which have claimed the Red Devils will be handed around £100m as they look to bolster Erik ten Hag's squad.

However, considering they hold an interest in the £68m-rated Mount and are in desperate need to sign a new striker, this does not feel like a huge amount of money.

Indeed, reports would also suggest that a new striker is firmly on their radar this summer with suggestions Harry Kane was initially viewed as the top target.

But with Tottenham Hotspur expected to hold such a high valuation on their all-time leading goalscorer, it is believed they have since removed themselves from the race.

It has to be questioned, though, if United had been sold to the likes of the Qatari bidders, would Kane still be on the radar for this summer?

Instead, they find themselves in a tricky situation where they seem to be targeting big-money players without the financial backing to support their ambition.

Rangers: Beale Could Land Unstoppable £10k-p/w Signing at Ibrox

Glasgow Rangers manager Michael Beale bolstered his attacking options earlier this month as the club officially confirmed the signing of Sam Lammers from Atalanta on a permanent basis.

The Light Blues have now added four players to their squad ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, with the Dutchman following Jack Butland, Kieran Dowell, and Dujon Sterling in committing to the Scottish giants this summer.

However, the Gers do not appear to be done in the transfer market and are eyeing another striker to compete with Lammers, Antonio Colak, and Kemar Roofe.

Who is Josh Maja?

The Glasgow giants reportedly have a genuine and long-standing interest in signing Bordeaux centre-forward Josh Maja in the coming weeks.

His contract with the Ligue 2 side is set to expire at the end of this month and, as it stands, the Nigerian international is poised to be available for nothing.

Beale could strike gold by signing the 24-year-old striker as current Gers attacking midfielder Todd Cantwell could make him unstoppable next season.

Rangers attacking midfielder Todd Cantwell.

The English maestro arrived at Ibrox in January from Norwich and enjoyed a terrific start to life in Scotland. He averaged a Sofascore rating of 7.36 and chipped in with six goals and four assists from the middle of the park across 16 league outings.

Cantwell created five 'big chances' and produced 1.3 key passes per game for his teammates, despite having played less than half of the campaign.

The 25-year-old, who completed 89% of his attempted passes in the Scottish Premiership, is able to open up the opposition on a regular basis to create significant chances for his fellow attackers, whilst his goal return last term also suggests that the ex-Norwich magician can make a big impact on his own.

Maja, whose "rare" talent was hailed by former Rangers striker Jermain Defoe, could benefit from Cantwell's creativity after an impressive season with Bordeaux in Ligue 2.

The £10k-per-week finisher averaged a Sofascore rating of 7.08 across 37 league appearances and contributed with 16 goals and six assists for the French side.

These statistics show that the 5 foot 11 dynamo, who scored 17 goals in 49 games for Sunderland's first-team, has the potential to be a prolific scorer for Rangers if provided with the right service.

Cantwell could be the player to do that for him as the 25-year-old wizard has proven himself to be an excellent creator for the Light Blues and his constant supply line to the forwards could make Maja an unstoppable threat up front for Beale in the 2023/24 campaign.

The Nigerian gem's ability to assist others from a number nine position, which resulted in him being able to create eight 'big chances' in 22/23, also means that opposition defenders would have to deal with his creativity, in potentially assisting Cantwell, as well as his finishing quality in the box.

Wiese in line for Sussex Kolpak move

David Wiese, the South Africa allrounder, is the latest player in line for a Kolpak deal with him nearing a move to Sussex.

He played in last year’s series win over England, and at the World T20, but his performances have not reflected his reputation for finishing games. He has played at the IPL and CPL and remains an important part of the Titans’ team but, at 31, and with the amount of young talent coming through, an international future is unlikely. Liverpool Eyeing "Amazing" £16m South American Starlet

Liverpool are interested in Boca Juniors starlet Alan Varela, according to reports in Argentina.

What's the latest Liverpool transfer news?

The Reds are expected to make several midfield reinforcements this summer, with a deal for another man with ties to Boca – Alexis Mac Allister – already sewn up.

Jurgen Klopp and Jorg Schmadtke aren’t stopping there, with a move reportedly in the pipeline for Khephren Thuram, who is perhaps the one name popping up now more than any other.

Nice midfielderKhephren Thuram.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Naby Keita and Arhur Melo have all left the club, so while none of those were regular starters last season, there are some serious gaps in the central departments at Anfield.

And another man they could apparently now turn to is Varela, who is a defensive midfielder for Boca Juniors, having risen through the youth ranks of the famous academy which boasts graduates like Ever Banega and Carlos Tevez.

According to Planet Boca Juniors, Varela is “wanted” by Schmadtke and Klopp, and the Reds sent officials to scout the player in a recent match against Tigre.

They then relay information from English sources that Liverpool are considering a bid of around £16m, although they do not verify that themselves.

Who is Alan Varela?

Varela is a totally different player to Thuram, so it seems like it would be a case of ‘as well as’ rather than ‘instead of’. The 21 year-old essentially thrives at three things – breaking up play, keeping the ball ticking over and pitching in with the occasional goal.

Indeed, he sits in the 68th percentile for tackles, 62nd for interceptions, 84th for blocks and 85th for clearances by midfielders in the ‘next eight’ leagues (those after the big five European competitions), and also ranks highly for goals, total passes and pass completion percentage.

His ball progression numbers – either by passing or dribbling – are poor, so this would clearly be a signing designed to compete with and perhaps eventually succeed Fabinho, rather than to play more advanced as a number eight.

Dubbed an “amazing talent” who is “low-risk, high-reward value for money” by scout and journalist Antonio Mango, Varela looks like a relatively shrewd signing for a club who may want to save the larger funds for a high-profile European-based signing like Thuram.

The knockout matches of the Ranji Trophy have been rescheduled to accommodate the two league fixtures in Delhi which were postponed due to pollution and smog. The quarter-finals, initially scheduled to begin on December 17, will now be held from December 24 to 28.The semi-finals were moved from December 27 to January 3, while the final, originally set to be played from January 7, will now take place from January 12 to 16. The BCCI also announced that the Irani Cup, to be played between the Ranji winners and Rest of India, will be held from January 22 to 26.The two postponed league matches – the Group A clash between Gujarat and Bengal and the Group C fixture between Hyderabad and Tripura – will now be played from December 15 to 18 in Visakhapatnam and Kolkata respectively. Both the fifth-round games, originally scheduled to be played at Feroz Shah Kotla and the Karnail Singh Stadium respectively, were called off without a ball being bowled. The players had complained of burning eyes on the opening day, and play was called off on the second afternoon after there was no improvement in the air quality. The smog was believed to be an after-effect of Diwali fireworks, as well as the burning of paddy stubble in the neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana. The BCCI had then announced that the matches would be played after the league phase, and shifted games out of Delhi in the next round. The Group B fixture between Assam and Odisha, originally scheduled at the Karnail Singh Stadium, was shifted to Hyderabad, while the Hyderabad-Services game in Group C was moved from Feroz Shah Kotla to Mumbai.

Manchester City Set To Hold Discussions For £100m-Rated Player

Manchester City have stepped up their pursuit of Josko Gvardiol, with Football Insider reporting that discussions have already begun over a potential deal to send the player to the Etihad Stadium.

What is the latest Man City transfer news?

The 21-year-old has once again been a key player for RB Leipzig this season, featuring 30 times in the Bundesliga over the course of the campaign. He couldn't quite help the side to the top of the division but he did help them to improve on their finish last time around, with the club finishing in third this term compared to fourth.

He's not only impressed for Leipzig but has stood out as one of the best in his position over the course of the year too when compared to others in the 'Top Five' big leagues in Europe. Not only has he been one of the most prolific central defenders – his rate of 0.10 non-penalty goals per 90 puts him in the top nine percent amongst those big leagues as a centre-back – but he is also one of the most adept on the ball, with his 0.63 successful take-ons per 90 putting him in the top four percent and his one progressive carry per 90 ranking him in the 83rd percentile.

josko-gvardiol-transfer-arsenal-gabriel-magalhaes-arteta-edu

Now, he could have bagged himself a potential switch to the Premier League. According to a report from Football Insider, City chiefs are confident that the player will make a move to the Etihad Stadium, and he's already been earmarked as one of their main priorities during the summer window.

It's not clear how much a deal would be as of yet and it's not clear as to whether the player has agreed any terms but talks over a potential deal now appear to be in motion. If City hold out until next summer, he could cost the side £100m due to a release clause that is set in motion – but no fee has been named for this summer as yet.

Is Gvardiol a good signing for Man City?

The Croatia international's prowess going forward has already been highlighted but he's also shown incredible abilities defensively too. With 1.1 interceptions per 90, he had the third best rate at his club this campaign and his 2.3 clearances also ranked him in that position amongst Leipzig players this year too.

He's already been praised by football talent scout Jacek Kulig too, who admitted that the defender is a "top talent" based on his showings in the Champions League over the course of the season.

If City add Gvardiol to their squad then, Pep Guardiola would be getting a player that can do it all – and with his age in mind too, he would be a shrewd addition by the club.
