Manchester United Make Approach To Sign £50m "One-Man Army"

Manchester United have enquired about a deal to sign Everton's Amadou Onana this summer, but a new report has revealed that he’s not their first-choice candidate in defensive midfield.

What nationality is Amadou Onana?

Onana was originally born in Dakar, Senegal, but represents Belgium internationally and first made the move to the Premier League from Lille last summer where he’s made a total of 36 appearances following his arrival, but there’s a chance that he could already be on the move after just one campaign at Goodison Park.

The Toffees’ 21-year-old still has another four years remaining on his contract on Merseyside, but having made an instant impression to establish himself as Sean Dyche’s third best-performing defensive player last season, he appears to have caught the eye of Erik ten Hag in M16.

The Daily Mail previously reported that the Red Devils were assessing the possibility of a move having internally “held discussions” prior, and whilst talks have “not progressed” since then, the boss could be forced to enter the market to consider what options are out there.

Scott McTominay could be on his way out before the end of the window having been the subject of a £30m rejected offer from West Ham United and Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat has been the player most heavily linked to replace him should he depart, but with negotiations having not yet developed, the talented top-flight prospect has emerged as a possible alternative.

Are Man United signing Amadou Onana?

According to The Guardian, Everton have received an “approach” from Man United regarding a summer swoop for Onana. Ten Hag is looking to bolster his ranks with more “physicality” and therefore wants to recruit a “commanding” central talisman.

The Blues are “reluctant” to lose their prized asset and hope to retain his services for at least another year, but it’s stated that a bid of £50m could “convince” them to sanction his sale. Old Trafford chiefs view their target as “more than a destroyer” and believe that he is “good enough” to operate alongside the likes of Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount.

Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

How tall is Amadou Onana?

Standing at 6 foot 3, Onana adds a different dimension to the centre of the park with his height and has previously been dubbed a “one-man army” by talent scout Jacek Kulig due to his big stature, and there’s no doubt that he would dramatically improve Ten Hag’s defensive midfield ranks if he was to sign on the dotted line.

The BTFM client last season ranked in the 93rd percentile for aerial wins and won 43 out of his 72 tackles which was the second-highest success rate at Everton, via FBRef, showing that he’s not afraid to throw himself into challenges to clear the danger for his team.

The 2022 World Cup participant, who has the versatility to operate in five different positions over the grass, can also pose a threat when it comes to efforts in the final third having scored ten goals and provided five assists throughout his career, so for such a well-rounded player, testing the waters by tabling an offer may well be seen as a no-brainer of a decision for United.

Tottenham Make "Contact" Over £26m Johnson Partner

Tottenham Hotspur appear to be stepping up their search to find a suitable successor to Harry Kane, amid reports that the Lilywhites have held talks regarding a deal for Gent starlet, Gift Orban.

What's the latest on Orban to Tottenham?

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the north London outfit are said to have made "contact" with the Belgian side amid their interest in the Nigerian marksman, with Ange Postecoglou and co seemingly ready to fork out around €30m (£26m) for the 21-year-old sensation.

Writing on Twitter, the transfer insider revealed: "#Tottenham in contact with #KAAGent for Gift Orban! #Spurs could go as high as €30M (including bonuses) according to the latest oral discussions undertaken with their Belgian counterparts. The profile of the Nigerian striker has been validated by Ange Postecoglou.

"The green light to send the written offer is obviously linked to the Harry Kane affair. The English are anticipating the market by paying €30m in 2023 than have to offer the double once Orban has exploded in an intermediate league… Wait&See."

As Tavolieri noted, a deal for the former Stabaek ace is likely to be tied to the future of Kane, with talks continuing regarding the Englishman's potential move to Bayern Munich, despite the German giants having seen their latest £86m offer rebuffed.

How good is Gift Orban?

As the Independent's Miguel Delaney previously suggested, it is unlikely that Spurs will look for a direct replacement for Kane this summer, with the likelihood being that Postecoglou will instead seek to establish a more 'fluid' forward line instead.

Young Orban could represent the figurehead of that new-look attacking unit, with the 5 foot 10 speedster having proven his goalscoring credentials during his time in Norway and Belgium to date, after bagging 41 goals in just 48 club career games in total.

Undoubtedly something of a "poacher" – according to talent scout Jacek Kulig – a further benefit of the Gent ace is his devastating speed and threat in behind, having been hailed for his "electric pace & acceleration" by Kulig.

Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson.

The Benue State-born marksman could well be joined in the frontline by another dynamic, pacy asset in the form of fellow Tottenham target, Brennan Johnson, with the latter man – who has been valued at around £50m by current club Nottingham Forest – having seemingly caught the eye of Postecoglou and co.

As his compatriot Joe Allen previously stated, Johnson's pace is simply "frightening", with that natural gift having made him a real weapon for Steve Cooper in the Premier League last season, as he scored eight goals and provided three assists to help Forest stave off the drop.

A real goal threat like Orban, the 22-year-old also boasts the benefit of his ability to drive forward with the ball at his feet as he ranks in the top 10% among forwards in Europe's top five leagues for progressive carries, ensuring he could easily stretch the pitch for Spurs in a rapid breakaway – with his Nigerian counterpart also a "counter-attacking threat", according to Kulig.

As Johnson also proved during the 2021/22 campaign in the Championship, he could be the man to deliver quality service to Orban in the final third, with the Wales international creating 15 'big chances' and racking up ten assists to fire the Tricky Trees to promotion.

That creative prowess could ensure that the Nottingham native is able to regularly tee up Orban over the coming years at N17, with the latter man likely to be able to continue his remarkable goalscoring exploits.

Chelsea: Club Want Pochettino To Sign "Very Strong" Star

French side OGC Nice are hoping Chelsea make a move for goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel as a report from Europe shares some interesting news.

Who will Chelsea sign?

Mauricio Pochettino's side have been busy yet again this transfer window, having most recently beaten Liverpool to the signings of midfielders Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.

These transfer victories display the pull Chelsea very much still possess in the transfer market, even despite a disastrous 2022/2023 campaign, with the duo joining a plethora of other signings at Stamford Bridge.

Indeed, Christopher Nkunku, Axel Disasi, Nicolas Jackson, Lesley Ugochukwu, Robert Sanchez, Angelo and young Brazilian ace Deivid Washington have also put pen to paper this window.

The aforementioned will come in to replace Kalidou Koulibaly, N'Golo Kante, Edouard Mendy, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Cesar Azpilicueta, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ethan Ampadu – who have all sealed moves elsewhere.

Chelsea's expenditure totals a seismic £267 million this window, with attention now turning to Pochettino and whether the Argentine can start making a success of owner Todd Boehly's reign.

Despite this series of investments, the Blues could yet make more signings.

Schmeichel, who was a mainstay for Nice last term following his 2022 exit from Leicester City, could apparently come in to bolster their goalkeeping options.

Mendy's move to Saudi Arabia and Arrizabalaga's temporary transfer to Real Madrid could mean that Chelsea need a proven back up to summer signing Sanchez from Brighton.

The Denmark international icon is apparently despite to leave Nice before deadline day, as explained by French news outlet Nice-Matin (via Sport Witness).

It is believed that Nice want Chelsea, or any other interested side for that matter, to make a move for Schmeichel who has now been demoted in their goalkeeping ranks.

The 36-year-old is so eager to leave the club, that he is "less demanding" in regard to his potential destination, meaning that Chelsea wouldn't face any problem in convincing the player to join.

How good is Kasper Schmeichel?

OGC Nice'sKasperSchmeichel

Schmeichel started 36 Ligue 1 games for Nice last term as their mainstay and number one goalkeeper, but these reports out of France indicate his future lies elsewhere.

The veteran 6 foot 2 keeper has vast Premier League experience, particularly at Leicester City, where he won the title, FA Cup and Community Shield during his time there.

Former Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers, heaping praise on Schmeichel for his importance at the King Power Stadium, claimed the keeper's mentality is "very strong".

"His devotion and mentality has really seen him excel at the highest level," said Rodgers on Schmeichel in 2021.

"He doesn't get tired every day of doing the right things and I can't speak highly enough of him

"He's super professional and loves training and pushes himself to the limit everyday. He's a great inspiration to the young goalkeepers, and the other players at the club, and he has some old school values, which I really like.

"His spirit is very strong and he wants to win. He's very, very competitive. He wants to win every game in training and he takes that into matches."

West Ham: Moyes Could Replace Paqueta With £30k-p/w "Magician"

West Ham United are bracing themselves for another bid from Manchester City for Brazilian attacking midfielder Lucas Paqueta in the coming days.

Pep Guardiola clearly wants the player at City before the transfer window shuts and is expected to make another proposal to West Ham after their initial £70m bid was rejected by the Hammers.

Hammers boss David Moyes won't want to see him leave, yet he is already turning his head to potential replacements for the player who only arrived in the Premier League last summer.

Will West Ham United make more signings?

Edson Alvarez and James Ward Prowse are the only arrivals at the club so far and with European football gracing the London Stadium for the third consecutive year, Moyes will need to pad out his squad.

According to The Independent, West Ham, along with City and Tottenham Hotspur are chasing Jeremy Doku and the club already have put an offer in for the Belgian.

It is also claimed that whoever doesn’t secure a move for the current Rennes winger will instead turn to making a move for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.

Read the latest West Ham transfer news HERE…

The £30k-per-week gem is obviously doing enough to be attracting interest from teams like these and although Palace are trying to tie him down to an extended deal, Moyes could swoop in and give him a platform of European football this season to showcase his talents on.

How good is Eberechi Eze?

Paqueta was one of the shining lights for West Ham last term in what was a poor season, domestically anyway.

The Brazilian finished 2022/23 ranking second with regard to overall Sofascore rating (6.95) and he also ranked in the top five across the squad for goals and assists (five), key passes per game (1.1) and successful dribbles per game (1.2), suggesting that he offered a reliable attacking threat.

Eberechi Eze

Eze was also one of Palace’s better performers during a rather underwhelming Premier League campaign.

The English maestro ranked second in terms of rating (7.12) while topping the pile for goals and assists (14) before dropping to second across the squad for key passes (1.5) and successful dribbles (1.9) per game.

These statistics prove that Eze could be an ideal heir to Paqueta should he move to West Ham, and he would be able to shine occupying an attacking midfield berth.

Indeed, the 25-year-old even registered more shots on target per 90 (0.85 v 0.58), shot-creating actions per 90 (4.03 v 3.43), carries into the opposition penalty area (28 v eight) and a higher percentage of successful take-ons (58.2% v 51.5%) clearing proving to be a much greater attacking threat than the current West Ham gem.

Eze was even heralded as a “magician” by Sky Sports pundit Micah Richards back in 2021, and it’s evident that he has vastly improved over the previous 12 months.

Moyes could secure a wonderful talent that is clearly ready to take the next step and display his incredible talents on the continent.

Should Paqueta leave east London in the next two weeks, the Palace sensation must be the player Moyes signs to replace him.

Watling doubt for opening Test against West Indies

The wicketkeeper is struggling with a hip problem which could mean a Test debut for Tom Blundell in Wellington

Wicketkeeper BJ Watling is a doubt for New Zealand’s opening Test against West Indies due to a hip injury with the uncapped Tom Blundell in line for a debut if Watling is not available. The problem has forced Watling to sit out the last two rounds of Plunket Shield matches for Northern Districts. He will play as a batsman only against Auckland this week before what will effectively be a fitness test against Otago at the end of the month where he will have to keep wicket to be available for the first Test in Wellington on December 1.New Zealand squads

Test squad

Kane Williamson (capt), Trent Boult, Colin de Grandhomme, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Henry Nicholls, Jeet Raval, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, Neil Wagner, BJ Watling

New Zealand A
Martin Guptill (capt), Todd Astle, Tom Blundell, Neil Broom, Tom Bruce, Lockie Ferguson, Scott Kuggeleijn, Adam Milne, Colin Munro, Jeet Raval, George Worker

If Watling can’t take his place at the Basin Reserve – it would be the first Test he has missed since Headingley against England in 2013 – it would likely mean a first cap for 27-year-old Blundell ahead of handing the gloves to one-day keeper Tom Latham. Blundell has previously played one T20I and has been included in the New Zealand A side to face West Indies in their warm-up match from November 25.The cloud over Watling was the only uncertainty in a settled 12-man New Zealand squad, resuming Test cricket for the first time since March, although one further player will be added to the party following the A side’s fixture. Colin de Grandhomme has retained his place as the seam-bowling allrounder while Matt Henry is the extra pace bowler behind the established trio of Tim Southee, Trent Boult and Neil Wagner.West Indies could face a lively welcome to their tour with the New Zealand A side including three rapid pacemen in Adam Milne, Lockie Ferguson and Scott Kuggeleijn. Ferguson recently took a career-best match haul of 12 for 78 against Otago.Martin Guptill will captain the A side which also includes incumbent Test opener Jeet Raval alongside Colin Munro after his successful limited-overs tour of India and legspinner Todd Astle who was forced home from that trip with a groin strain.”While the Blackcaps squad doesn’t have too many surprises, this NZ A team certainly shows that we have depth and quality players who are pushing for higher honours,” selector Gavin Larsen said.”Watching the three quickest bowlers in NZ operating together will certainly be exciting, and all three have plenty to play for. We are looking to develop Martin’s leadership capabilities and the NZ A match is another good opportunity.”

Can Sri Lanka avoid another whitewash?

Sri Lanka have been at the wrong end of 5-0 scorelines twice this year, against South Africa and India. Can they find a way to evade the same fate against Pakistan?

The Preview by Andrew Fidel Fernando22-Oct-2017

Associated Press

Big PictureFor the third time in a year, it has come to this: Sri Lanka must win to avoid a whitewash at the hands of an opposition they have barely pushed through the first four games. They did not manage to win the fifth match against South Africa in February, nor the fifth against India in September. As their bowlers continue to prove friendly, and their batting brittle, a third 0-5 whitewash beckons seductively from the corner. When mediocrity has called, Sri Lanka’s 2017 ODI team has rarely resisted. So dominant have Pakistan been that it is difficult to pinpoint an area that needs a definite tune-up. Even without Mohammad Amir in the squad, Sarfraz Ahmed’s suggestion that Pakistan have the best ODI attack in the world is not outlandish, Shadab Khan and Hasan Ali having run white-hot through this series. Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq have fired at the top of the order, and Shoaib Malik has batted well in the middle. When required, the lower order has bailed the team out as well. They are facing weak opposition, but with several Pakistan players continuing to make a charge up the ODI rankings, they can claim to have consolidated the ODI form they had gathered during the Champions Trophy.Sri Lanka require a fantastic individual performance to propel them to an unlikely victory, as the team does not appear to be meshing well as a whole. A whirlwind Niroshan Dickwella innings or a terrific Akila Dananjaya spell have the potential to transform Sri Lanka’s fortunes. But whenever Sri Lanka have mustered a passage of good cricket, Pakistan have usually responded with a better one.Form guideSri Lanka LLLLL (completed matches, most recent first)
Pakistan WWWWWIn the spotlightThat Sarfraz Ahmed had to report an allegedly corrupt approach may be the most memorable story about him from this series, but he has also now fashioned an impressive start to his limited-overs leadership. Under him, Pakistan have now won three ODI trophies in three different continents (plus a single ODI against Zimabwe in 2015). He is a difficult captain not to like – constantly proactive, and often using his bowlers intelligently. If Pakistan win, this would be his first whitewash at the helm.Upul Tharanga, meanwhile, has had a difficult time in his own leadership. He had been Sri Lanka’s captain during the two previous whitewashes this year – though he was suspended for two matches in the India series – and has not been successful on other occasions he has led. His own batting form, however, has largely been good. In this series, he is the second-highest run-scorer after Babar, with 191 runs at an average of 63.66.Team newsPakistan may be tempted to experiment in this dead rubber. Left-arm quick Usman Khan may get another match after taking 1 for 38 on debut on Friday.Pakistan (probable): 1 Imam-ul-Haq, 2 Fakhar Zaman, 3 Babar Azam, 4 Mohammad Hafeez, 5 Shoaib Malik, 6 Sarfraz Ahmed (capt & wk), 7 Imad Wasim, 8 Shadab Khan, 9 Hasan Ali, 10 Usman Khan, 11 Junaid KhanHaving run themselves out of options, Sri Lanka may retain many of the same XI that lost by seven wickets on Friday.Sri Lanka (probable): 1 Niroshan Dickwella, (wk), 2 Upul Tharanga (capt.), 3 Dinesh Chandimal, 4 Lahiru Thirimanne, 5 Sadeera Samarawickrama, 6 Milinda Siriwardana, 7 Seekkuge Prasanna, 8 Thisara Perera, 9 Akila Dananjaya, 10 Suranga Lakmal, 11 Lahiru GamagePitch and conditionsSharjah surfaces are rarely conducive to scores of more than 300, but are not overtly biased towards the bowlers either. The temperature is forecast to be in the mid-30-degree range in the afternoon.Stats and trivia Pakistan have won 11 of the 13 ODIs they have played under Sarfraz’s captaincy. Sri Lanka have won four and lost 15 under Tharanga In addition to now having lost 11 consecutive ODIs, Sri Lanka have also lost eight out of ten ODIs against Pakistan since 2015

Stoneman hits century as England find their groove

Alastair Cook, Joe Root and Dawid Malan also hit half-centuries on a productive day in the middle, but the quality of the bowling was a world away from what will greet England next week

George Dobell in Townsville16-Nov-2017
ScorecardTownsville is, in many ways, a ferocious place.Oh, it’s pretty. It has a mountain range, a shoreline and beautiful forests. The shops and bars seem nice, too.But the sun is brutal and the wind is fierce. It doesn’t rain for years at a time – literally – and the land provides a home for snakes, wild dogs, scorpions and spiders so large it’s hard to believe they’re not ponies on the way to a fancy dress party. “Don’t worry,” the locals tell you. “The bigger they are the less poisonous they are.” But these spiders can beat you to death. They can wait for you in a dark carpark, steal your wallet and demand protection money from local businesses. But even though there’s something that can burn, bite, poison or sting you just about every square inch, it’s still preferable to be on land than in the water. Because if you find yourself in the water round here (lakes or sea, anyway; the shower is fine once you’ve checked for spiders) you’re in real trouble. You’ll be sharing with sharks, crocodiles and jelly-fish all of which will delight in killing you. Beaches in Queensland have been shut 50 times in recent weeks for one of the above and, at present in Townsville, there is a warning about a four metre croc (described as a “problem crocodile” as opposed to all those laidback easy-going ones) that is lurking close to shore. The bats have rabies, the koalas have chlamydia and even the magpies – vast, pterodactyl-like creatures that threaten to carry you off in their talons – have been known to kill. “Ah, don’t worry,” a local said on Thursday. “The worst those spiders can do is paralyse you.” It’ll be a miracle if any of us get out alive. But, for a few hours on Thursday, the middle at the Riverway Stadium looked like paradise. For batsmen, at least. The pitch was gentle, the bowling even more so and Alastair Cook and Mark Stoneman seized the opportunity with both hands.Stoneman has looked fine all trip. He has passed 50 every time he has come to the crease and here became the first man on the tour to register a century. He gave one chance – Nick Larkin, at gully, put him down on 41 off Simon Milenko; Larkin, the one man with a first-class hundred in this CA side, sustained a fracture and will not feature in the rest of this match – but generally looked utterly in command. He doesn’t hook – he tends to duck the bouncer – but he pulls nicely, cuts very well and has a lovely, fluid drive. There were many jokes about Australians never having heard of several of this England squad when they arrived: it seems safe to suggest they’ll know the Stoneman name before he heads home.Underlining England’s mantra about going on to convert good starts in match-defining scores, Stoneman didn’t even take off his helmet to acknowledge the applause when he reached three figures: a century can’t be seen as a destination by England on this tour; it has to be a landmark on the way to a more distant goal. He was angry with himself – punching his bat in frustration – for scuffing a return catch to the legspinner Daniel Fallins shortly after tea.Cook’s innings might be more significant. With England’s batting line-up lacking experience in these conditions – the likely top nine will, excluding him, have a combination of six Test caps in Australia between them – his knowledge of three previous tours provides reassurance. He has looked horribly out of form until this innings, but here looked comfortable and confident. From his very first delivery, when the ball thudded against the middle of his defensive bat, his movements were more certain, his judgement more precise. He looked furious with himself for his dismissal – attempting to guide a cut behind point, he managed only an edge – and for missing out on a hundred, but this was a good step forward from him. He, and the England management, will sleep a little easier as a result. The one nagging worry – and it nagged particularly hard as Dawid Malan and Joe Root settled in against unthreatening spin bowling in the final session – is that this surface and this opposition will bear little comparison to that anticipated in Brisbane. It’s like preparing for an artic trek by buying yourself a cornetto. England may still be in for a shock in Brisbane.Opinion is divided over whether this represents a desperately cynical ploy from Cricket Australia or simply reflects the shallowing depth of their playing reserves. If it is the latter, they have a significant problem lurking just below the surface. If it is the former, there might be a certain poetic justice if this tactic came back to bite Cricket Australia on the backside like one of those spiders that lurks under the toilet bowl round these parts (yes, nowhere is safe). While it is undeniably true that the standard of opposition – and the pace of surfaces – will increase sharply next week, it may be that England have had the opportunity to acclimatise, gain confidence and form ahead of the serious business ahead.James Vince was the one man to fail to take advantage. Since the 82 he made to start the tour – a non-first-class innings that saw him dropped twice – he has fallen between 26 and 33 in his three subsequent innings. He has time to play the ball and is wonderfully easy on the eye, but there is a vulnerability that renders his selection at No. 3 quite a risk. While he was given not out here initially, the umpires consulted and it was eventually decided he had played one off his pad to short leg. He looked aghast at the decision. Or, perhaps, at having missed out. Batting in first-class cricket in Australia has rarely looked as comfortable.

Journalist Shares Big Nottingham Forest Transfer Insight

Nottingham Forest are interested in bringing in two new goalkeepers to the club this summer with Matt Turner and Dean Henderson the preferred duo, according to Sky Sports' Dharmesh Sheth.

Is Turner joining Nottingham Forest?

Last summer's incredibly hectic transfer window at the City Ground is yet to repeat itself fully this year as Nottingham Forest have been a little more measured in the market this time round.

Steve Cooper has added Manchester United's Anthony Elanga to his squad, as well as securing the signature of Ola Aina on a free transfer. Chris Wood's loan deal from Newcastle United has been made permanent, while a number of players have left the Midlands side including the likes of Jesse Lingard, Andre Ayew and Sam Surridge.

However, the Forest manager has lost his two first-choice goalkeepers as well with both Dean Henderson and Keylor Navas returning to their parent clubs following the expiry of their loan deals.

As a result, Cooper will be eager to look for solutions to his lack of goalkeeping options in the market and will not want to enter the new Premier League season with only Wayne Hennessey and Ethan Horvath as his only choices.

A deal for Arsenal's Matt Turner has been agreed with a fee of approximately £7m having been reported, but according to Sheth, Forest are keen to sign two new goalkeepers this summer, with last year's loanee Henderson also on their radar.

Speaking on Sky Sports (via Football Daily), Sheth stated: "There's still the issue of Matt Turner, who is the current number two [at Arsenal]. He's having talks, which are advancing and progressing we're told, with Nottingham Forest over a permanent deal there.

"But Forest are actually after two goalkeepers. So, while they're talking to Arsenal over Matt Turner, they continue to talk to Manchester United over Dean Henderson. Now, this is an interesting one because they're discussing a loan with an obligation to buy Dean Henderson.

"Henderson, we're told, is close to full fitness following thigh surgery back in May. You remember, his season got cut short in January, he got a serious thigh injury, he missed the last four months of the season while he was on loan at Nottingham Forest. But his recovery is a factor in the discussion of this deal because it's not the loan part of it so much [that's causing issues], it's how many games would be required for the obligation to be triggered."

"Now, we think that Manchester United want a fewer number of games than what Nottingham Forest would want. But because of this injury and the recency of this injury, I think Nottingham Forest want to be 100% sure."

Henderson was impressive on loan last season at Forest until injury derailed his campaign and Sheth suggests that there is an eagerness from the player, Forest and Manchester United to get the deal done.

The structure of the deal appears to be the major complication between Forest and United, while it also remains to be seen how much the obligation to buy would set Forest back.

Either way, Cooper is clearly keen to add strength and depth between the sticks, with Turner and Henderson having to battle between themselves for the number one jersey.

When do Nottingham Forest play next?

Cooper's side have had a fairly mixed pre-season to say the least, drawing one, winning two and losing three of the six friendlies they have played.

A narrow 1-0 win over League Two rivals Notts County was followed by a 1-0 defeat and 2-1 victory against Spanish sides Valencia and Levante respectively.

However, that win against Levante has been followed by two successive defeats. The first was a 2-0 loss to Championship Leeds United and the second was a 1-0 defeat to Dutch outfit PSV Eindhoven.

Their most recent clash was a goalless draw against Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany, the club's last pre-season encounter before their return to Premier League action.

Forest face a difficult start to the season facing Arsenal on the opening day on 12 August, followed by games against Sheffield United, Man United, Chelsea, Burnley and Manchester City in their first six league matches.

Those games against Arsenal, Man United, Chelsea and Man City are all away from home.
