Sky Sports: £35k-p/w Man Utd player who Amorim is happy with may now leave

A Manchester United player who Ruben Amorim and INEOS are happy with could leave Old Trafford in 2025, according to Sky Sports.

Players who may leave Man Utd in 2025

The Red Devils are now in another new era under head coach Amorim and have made a positive start under the Portuguese coach, winning two and drawing one of their first three games.

Real Madrid are keen on signing a Manchester United player who has become a key player in recent seasons.

Fans have already been seeing signs of a change in playing style under Amorim, and in the transfer market, there could also be plenty of movement in 2025.

In regards to exits, a number of players are out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of the season and will therefore be able to talk to clubs outside of England in January over a pre-contract agreement.

Tom Heaton

As can be seen, five players on the books at Man Utd are on course to become free agents, although a new deal for Amad Diallo appears to be in the pipeline.

Unfortunately for Christian Eriksen, it looks as if his days as a Red Devils player are numbered, with Eriksen likely to leave Man Utd for free at the end of the season. Now, it looks as if another player who is still under contract for a number of years could join him in a 2025 exit.

Altay Bayindir could leave Man Utd – Sky Sports

According to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Man Utd goalkeeper Altay Bayindir could leave Old Trafford in either January or in the summer.

Despite Amorim and INEOS being “very satisfied” with the ‘keeper, Plettenberg states that Bayindir “is simply too good to be a number two behind Andre Onana and currently has no prospects for regular playing time”.

Bayindir arrived in Manchester from Fenerbahce for £4.3m in September 2023 following David de Gea and Dean Henderson’s Old Trafford exits.

The Turkey international has rivalled Onana since moving to Old Trafford but has found game time hard to come by, making just three appearances in all competitions.

Under contract until 2027, Bayindir has played in United’s two EFL Cup games in 2024/25, but by the looks of it, an exit in the New Year could be on the cards for the £35,000-a-week shot-stopper.

Should a permanent exit away from United materialise, it will be looked back on as a transfer to forget, with former director John Murtough previously hailing Bayindir after he signed, saying:

“Altay is an excellent addition to our squad and adds further quality to our already strong group of experienced goalkeepers. Having consistently performed at a high level in a strong European league, he has the qualities to support us in achieving our ambitions across all competitions this season and beyond.”

Clement may have unearthed his own John McGinn with £4.5m Rangers star

Glasgow Rangers manager Philippe Clement may have bought himself some time after the excellent victory over Nice in the Europa League in midweek.

He is still under pressure, but if he can somehow turn around the club’s fortunes between now and January, he could be given the window to bring in new players.

His record in the market hasn’t been great, although there have been a few standouts.

Clement’s best Rangers signings

Vaclav Cerny can lay claim to being one of the Belgian’s best signings this season, scoring eight times and chipping in with five assists across 20 games for the Gers.

He may only be on loan, but could the board convince him to join permanently?

Nedim Bajrami is another attacking player who joined in the summer. Costing around £3.4m, the Albanian has made an impressive start to life in Glasgow, adding some class to an attack that was stagnating.

In Europe, the former Sassuolo midfielder has created six big chances, averaged 2.4 key passes and succeeded with 2.6 dribbles per game, indicating how vital he has been in the final third.

Both have been crucial at times this season. In terms of future potential, however, Mohamed Diomande has the ability to star at the very highest level. The onus is now for the Ivorian to produce the goods on a more consistent basis for the Gers.

Mohamed Diomande's stats vs Nice

The midfielder delivered one of his most impressive displays of the season against Nice, just when it mattered most. Not only did he get on the scoresheet, but Diomande also won 50% of his total duels, attempted two dribbles and made two tackles as he shone at the heart of the midfield for the Light Blues.

It was a performance which hasn’t been on show over the previous few months, despite his seemingly limitless potential. Hailed as “aggressive” by analyst John Walker upon his arrival, more displays like this in the future could attract some attention.

Mohamed Diomande

He certainly has the required attributes to compete in the Premier League and is even similar to Aston Villa and Scotland star John McGinn, according to FBref, among those in his position across Europe.

The Scot – who, like Diomande, is an attack-minded, left-footed midfielder – has been one of Unai Emery’s key players since the Spaniard took charge in October 2022 and Clement could unearth his very own version of the former Hibernian starlet in Diomande.

John McGinn

The £4.5 signing from FC Nordsjaelland has demonstrated his qualities in spells since moving to Rangers at the start of the year, with the hope that he can reach similar levels to that of McGinn.

The experienced asset left Hibs for just £2m back in 2018, yet is now deemed to be worth £26m, according to Transfermarkt, and is the fifth-highest scorer in his nation’s history.

Farke has already unearthed Leeds’ very own James McAtee

Leeds United are currently sitting in third place in the Championship table ahead of their return to action against Swansea in Wales on Saturday.

The Whites have had two weeks off, thanks to the international break, and will now be looking to record another victory when they take on the Swans this weekend.

Two points separate Sunderland in first and Leeds in third and this means that Daniel Farke’s side could end the weekend at the top of the table if results go their way.

As you would expect in the Championship, the division is incredibly tight and it takes remarkable consistency to secure an automatic promotion place.

The Whites, who beat Queens Park Rangers 2-0 before the break, finished third and missed out on automatic promotion with 90 points from 46 matches last season.

Farke will hope that his side can go one better this time around and go straight back up to the Premier League, rather than needing to compete in the play-offs.

The January transfer window opens for business in less than two months and some supporters have suggested that Manchester City’s James McAtee should be a target.

Leeds United's interest in James McAtee

After the summer transfer window closed, Leeds chief Angus Kinnear revealed that the England U21 international was a target for the club ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

The central midfielder had just been relegated from the Premier League with Sheffield United on loan and the Whites attempted to bring him to Elland Road to bolster their promotion hopes.

Speaking on The Square Ball podcast, Kinnear said: “Two of the other players, looking at the level we were looking at, McAtee at Man City, there was talk he might be released all the way through the window and then Pep [Guardiola] decided to keep him.”

Former Sheffield United loanee James McAtee.

More recently, LeedsLive suggested that the West Yorkshire outfit should look to strike a loan deal for the young midfielder in the January transfer window, due to his lack of game time with Manchester City.

Football League World also posted an article that included McAtee signing for the club as part of a dream window for Leeds ahead of the second half of the season.

Chalkboard

Football FanCast's Chalkboard series presents a tactical discussion from around the global game.

These outlets are basing these claims off Kinnear’s confirmation that the club were interested in the City whiz in the summer, as well as his proven quality at Championship level, thanks to his first loan spell with the Blades.

James McAtee's Championship form for Sheffield United

The left-footed attacking midfielder joined Sheffield United on loan from Manchester City in the summer of 2022 and enjoyed a terrific first season in the second tier.

Playing under Paul Heckingbottom, the English youngster was in his first full campaign of regular first-team football after coming up through the academy ranks at The Etihad.

It provided him with an opportunity to test himself at senior level for the first time and McAtee took it all in his stride, helping the Blades to secure promotion up to the Premier League.

As you can see in the table above, the midfield maestro was directly involved in 12 goals in 37 appearances in the division, and was unfortunate to only have three assists from six ‘big chances’ created.

He also ranked within the top 21% of attacking midfielders and wingers in the league for progressive passes (4.03) per 90, and the top 12% for Expected Assisted Goals (0.20) per 90.

McAtee was a number ten who was constantly involved in play and looking to make things happen in the final third for Sheffield United, hence why he ranked so highly for progressive passes and xAG per 90.

The 22-year-old star was then sent back to the Blades for a second season on loan at Bramall Lane in the 2023/24 campaign, but he struggled to provide regular quality at the top end of the pitch.

McAtee scored three goals and provided three assists in 31 appearances in the Premier League, as his side were relegated from the division with just 16 points.

Farke, however, does not need to swoop for the Manchester City man in January, despite his impressive form at Championship level in the past, because he has already unearthed his own version of McAtee in Brenden Aaronson.

Brenden Aaronson's Leeds revival

The USA international returned to Elland Road in the summer after spending the 2023/24 campaign on loan with Union Berlin, having decided not to drop down to the Championship after the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

He had only produced one goal and three assists in 36 games in the top-flight for the Whites and that, combined with his decision to leave on loan last year, meant that he did not have much goodwill in the bank come the summer.

However, Aaronson put his head down and worked hard to be a part of Farke’s plans, after being given a chance by the German head coach, and has emerged as a key player for the team this season.

Like McAtee, the 24-year-old star is a nimble, energetic, but lightweight, attacking midfielder who can make a difference with goals and assists in the final third.

As you can see in the table above, Aaronson has already contributed with eight goals and ‘big chances’ created combined in 15 appearances in the Championship this season.

The American star, who was described as being “like a weed” by Jesse Marsch in reference to his continued development, is currently on course to end the season with more goals, more ‘big chances’ created, more dribbles completed, and more key passes than McAtee managed in the 2022/23 campaign.

It is now down to him to remain consistent and show that he can perform at that level for an entire campaign, but the early signs are incredibly promising.

His statistics illustrate just how well the former RB Salzburg man has performed under Farke in the second tier this season and suggests that the Whites do not need to spend money on a permanent or loan swoop for the Manchester City youngster in January.

Including Bamford: The three Leeds players Farke must cash in on in January

The Leeds United head coach must consider cashing in all three of these players.

ByDan Emery Nov 16, 2024

Credit must go to Farke for being willing to offer the Leeds number 11 a chance to impress in pre-season, rather than sending him straight back out on loan or selling him, as he has now unearthed his own McAtee, and potentially a better version of him.

Bigger mistake than Zirkzee: Ashworth messed up offloading £25m Man Utd ace

Over the last couple of years, Manchester United’s transfer business has been brought into question and rightly so given the lack of impact from some of their additions.

There have been various occasions in which supporters have voiced their displeasure at the lack of investment from the hierarchy, but it’s safe to say they have given the likes of Erik ten Hag the funds to work within the market.

The Dutchman spent a huge £600m on incomings during his 27-month reign at Old Trafford, spending £156m alone on Brazilian’s Casemiro and Antony, who have both failed to impress during their time in the Premier League – with the pair starting a combined nine matches in England’s top flight during 2024/25.

Millions of pounds have undoubtedly been wasted on talents, leading to the current cost-cutting operation to cut costs wherever possible, restricting Ruben Amorim’s chances of bolstering his squad dramatically.

However, real promise surrounded the summer window this time around, given the appointment of Dan Ashworth, joining the club from Newcastle United and becoming their Sporting Director.

Dan Ashworth’s summer dealings at Man Utd

After such a high-profile appointment, the supporters had reason to be excited, with the 53-year-old now overseeing transfers at Old Trafford.

However, a couple of months into 2024/25, it’s safe to say many of those additions have failed to provide value for money, including Manuel Ugarte, who’s yet to nail down a starting role despite now featuring under his former boss after their time at Sporting CP.

The Uruguayan cost a whopping £50m from PSG, looking to add that quality and combative nature to the midfield – a feature that was often lacking massively last season.

Despite the huge fee, he’s only started five times in the Premier League, often having to make his mark late on in matches as a substitute.

Joshua Zirkzee is another example of the poor business conducted during the off-season, joining for £36.5m from Bologna after scoring 12 times in Italy during the 2023/24 campaign.

However, his move too has been a disaster, only scoring three times in all competitions, looking well off the pace and level required for success – as demonstrated in the Europa League against Viktoria Plzen on Thursday night.

Despite the flurry of additions, Ashworth also oversaw the departures of players, making a bigger mistake than Zirkzee, by allowing one player to leave – especially considering his form away from United in recent months.

Ashworth’s biggest mistake during his time at United

Scott McTominay was sold during the summer for £25m, joining Serie A side Napoli and subsequently ending his 22-year affiliation with his boyhood club.

The Scottish international operated in various roles during his time in the first team, from centre-back to midfielder and even as a striker, amassing a total of 255 appearances over a seven-year stint in Manchester.

He desired increased game time to further his career as he enters his prime years as a professional, doing just that with Napoli, starting 12 league matches since moving to Naples.

The 28-year-old has already scored three times in Serie A, carrying on his impressive goalscoring form despite his deep-lying midfield role, showing his former employers what a huge mistake they made in allowing him to depart.

McTominay, who’s previously been dubbed as a “monster” by one notable content creator, has also produced some sensational underlying stats, including an average of 2.1 shots per 90, potentially improving United’s current lack of attacking threat if Ashworth didn’t sell the talent.

His recent displays, coupled with Ashworth’s departure over the last few weeks, are further evidence that United still have major issues within the club – with huge work needing to be done if they are to return to their former glory.

It’s great to see an academy star lighting up the European stage, but it will be a big kick in the teeth for the supporters, leaving many pondering what could’ve been if they had kept hold of the Scotsman.

Including Carlos: Emery must now axe £255k-p/w Aston Villa trio in January

It has been a tough few weeks for Aston Villa, despite a brilliant start to the season for Unai Emery’s side. They lost just one of their first 12 games in all competitions, a 2-1 defeat at home to Arsenal.

That included a memorable 1-0 win at home to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

However, they have had a serious downturn in their form over the past few weeks. Emery’s men have not won in the last five matches, and have actually lost all of their last four in all competitions.

It is certainly a concerning run that they will be hoping for an upturn in form once club football resumes next week.

With the January transfer window fast approaching, it might be a good time to refresh the squad as they look to buck the trend of losses and start the new year on a high. Three names in particular could be smart sales for the Villans…

1

Diego Carlos

The first player who could leave Villa Park in January is defender Diego Carlos. According to a report from Football Insider, Emery ‘could give the green light to sell’ the Brazilian centre-back. Fulham were interested in the 31-year-old over the summer, and might well be interested again.

Carlos has been something of a bit-part player for the Midlands club this term, featuring 11 times in all competitions. Having started just 36% of the games in the Premier League, the lack of opportunities might well be frustrating for the defender, who earns £100k-per-week.

However, he has struggled at times this term, particularly against Ipswich Town. Coming up against one of the division’s most in-form attackers, Liam Delap, Carlos put in a disappointing performance. Tim Sherwood was critical, explaining the Brazilian’s defending “was so bad” against the Tractor Boys.

With the likes of Pau Torres and Ezri Konsa as first choices at the back, plus Tyrone Mings making a full return from a serious year-long injury, it will be tough for Carlos to regain his place in the side, making a transfer a sensible solution for all parties.

2

Matty Cash

Matty Cash and Leon Bailey

Poland international Matty Cash has had an important role to play at Villa Park since joining from Nottingham Forest in 2020 for £16m. The right-back has played 148 games for the club, contributing to 19 goals in that time.

Stats from Transfermarkt

This season, despite a short time on the sideline with a hamstring injury, the 27-year-old has featured several times under Emery. The £80k-per-week star has played six times, all in the Premier League, although he is yet to see any European action.

Emery has tended to select Konsa at right-back instead of the Slough-born defender. Although the England international is a centre-back by trade, he has slotted in on the right side of defence six times this term, with half of those appearances coming in the Champions League.

Cash was described as an “upgradeable” player by football analyst Ben Mattinson. With Konsa an option there, and youngster Kosta Nedeljkovic knocking on the door as his understudy, selling Cash and replacing him internally or with a new purchase on lower wages might be the way forward for the Villans.

3

Emiliano Buendia

It has been a long road to recovery for Villa attacking midfielder Emiliano Buendia, who recently returned to full fitness following an anterior cruciate ligament injury that kept him out from August 2023 to June 2024.

Sadly, the Argentine has not found a starting berth easy to come by this term and has struggled for any regular minutes in the Villans midfield. Buendia has featured eight times in all competitions, but has started just two games, both in the Carabao Cup, and has 32 minutes to his name in six appearances in the Premier League and Champions League.

There is no doubting his quality. Football statistician Statman Dave described him as “magic” at his previous club, Norwich City. His record there is superb, with 24 goals and 41 assists in 121 games for the club, but his form has been mixed since returning from injury this season.

There is plenty of competition in those attacking midfield areas, with the likes of Morgan Rogers and Jacob Ramsey currently first choice for Emery in those roles.

The Villa number 10, who earns £75k-per-week and was a target for Leeds United in the summer – might well decide to leave for pastures anew, so he can get back to playing regular football now he is back to full fitness.

If all those exits were to occur, the Villans would be able to free up roughly £255k-per-week on the wage bill…

Western Australia secured hosting rights for the Sheffield Shield final for the first time in 24 years after hammering Victoria inside three days at the WACA.The hosts quickly completed an innings and 51-run triumph on Friday, courtesy of four wickets from Lance Morris and three from Joel Paris, and in the process finished in top spot on the Shield table ahead of the decider starting next Thursday. The final will be a rematch of this week’s contest, with Victoria finishing in second spot despite the loss after New South Wales failed to accrue enough bonus points to surpass Victoria even if they beat South Australia.Victoria will need to lift in all areas of the game to challenge WA after being rolled for 114 and 172, while the hosts looked far more assured at the crease posting 337.Victoria resumed day three at 5 for 82 – still needing 141 runs to even make WA bat again – although they found stability from Matt Short (35), while Sam Harper made a particularly patient 17 off 109 balls before he nicked Morris through to the keeper. They made it to lunch but their resistance would end quickly after, with Morris and Paris doing the damage.WA’s Hilton Cartwright earned player of the match honours for his 109 that steered his side to the strong total. He was well helped by opener Sam Whiteman’s 63, while nightwatchman Matthew Kelly looked the goods up the order blasting 41 off 51 balls.Victoria will also hope they can find more from luckless Test batter Will Pucovski, who made 22 and 11 on his return from his latest concussion.WA and Victoria last met in a Shield final in 2014-15 at a neutral venue in Hobart, which was the last final WA played in. WA haven’t hosted a final since 1997-98 or won a Sheffield Shield since 1998-99.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Pulisic posted a personal best return of 15 goals during his debut campaign with Milan, and has already matched that output this term. There has been talk of the 26-year-old being lined up for a lucrative new contract that will take him through to at least 2028 – with there an option for a further 12-month extension.

  • WHAT CHRISTIAN PULISIC SAID

Pulisic has also seen another big-money move speculated on, with the likes of Liverpool said to be monitoring his situation, but the man himself has said when asked if he feels at home in Milan: "Oh, 100 percent yes. This club has faith in me and it’s a pleasure to be here every day. I want to continue here."

    DID YOU KNOW?

Pulisic was on target again as AC Milan overcame Como in their latest fixture – in a game that saw Dele Alli sent off on his Serie A debut – with the Rossoneri still in the hunt for European qualification.

Their No. 11 added: "We ought to be more positive, because we have won two games in a row and have the opportunity to get where we want to be, but we’ve got to take it one game at a time. We want to finish in the top four, so we’ve got to believe and need the fans to support the team."

Steven Mullaney, Joey Evison hundreds make Sussex supporters sweat

Spring is nature’s con-artist and every cricketer knows it. Two weeks ago in The Parks she was summer with its thin frocks and picnics; two days ago in Hove she was winter with thick scarves and steaming tea. This morning, though, there was no disguising the season or the pleasure derived from it. “Good morning, Paul,” said Sam, the tall, rubicund, limitlessly cheerful steward, who is so much a part of this ground that one might believe his ancestors were here when Duleep almost took the county to the title in 1932. That was the season in which Sussex cricketers became Alan Ross’s first gods, though the 10-year-old Ross little guessed they would also be his last. It was not much different for the folk who watched Tom Clark make his maiden hundred on Friday morning. Among them were his parents.Sussex supporters, though, were concerned, even as they queued to get into the ground today. The first half of this match had gone wonderfully well but surely at some point Nottinghamshire, the divisional favourites, would slip themselves and demand a reckoning.Such apprehensions proved well-founded. Much of this day’s play was disconsonant with the leisured ease that lay only a good hit from the County Ground. Steven Mullaney made the highest score of his career and 20-year-old Joey Evison his maiden century as Nottinghamshire’s batters overhauled the home side’s total and then built the 159-run lead that will determine the character of the final three sessions. The cricket was brutal at times and one was reminded that if you added together the first-class matches played by ten of this Sussex team, the total would not come close to the 158 appearances made by Mullaney.Related

Left to weather 15 overs, the home openers batted capably until Tom Haines pulled Lyndon James straight to Liam Patterson-White at midwicket. And the last day’s play will be affected by injury. Danial Ibrahim has damaged his shoulder and will take no further part in the match and Luke Fletcher bowled only one over this evening before leaving the field with a tight hamstring. “Whatevs” as the kids say. The pitch looks true and flat but Sussex folk are surely set for a few hours that will trample on their nerves. But, in truth, the worries of home supporters had been deepened as soon as the 17th ball of the morning, when Delray Rawlins dropped Mullaney on 86, a low chance at cover off Steven Finn and one he should have taken; anxiety was then eased a shade when Rawlins made amends by having Tom Moores caught at slip by Tom Alsop for 43 two overs before the new ball was due. But that latter change only sharpened the visitors’ appetite for quick runs. Patterson-White heaved Henry Crocombe over the short boundary for two sixes and had also hit five fours in his 45-ball 44 before he was leg before to a full-length ball from Clark just before lunch.Throughout the session Crocombe and Jamie Atkins were receiving advice and encouragement from Finn at mid-off but nothing could prevent Mullaney reaching a fine century or Nottinghamshire scoring 118 runs in the session’s 29 overs. (It should be noted, though, that if Kevin Pietersen had his way, lads like Crocombe and Atkins would probably not have the chance to learn their trade. And there are players like them in all 18 counties. When people talk about “reforming English domestic cricket” their plans often entail denying opportunities and messing with young people’s lives.)Perhaps supporters of both counties and none were wise to stroll to the esplanade at lunchtime. For the light was resplendent across Brighton and Hove this afternoon. The sun shone on the tall, squashed terraces in Russell Square and the high-ceilinged apartments in Portland Place with their Greek salads and double-walled cafetières. More obviously, it shone on the many blues of the endlessly glittering sea and on the bathers who braved the Channel. “That blue is all in a rush / With richness,” wrote Gerard Manley Hopkins, and so it was again. Mysteriously, some folk sought refuge in the subterranean style of Hove Place, where the locals drank Harvey’s Sussex Best and the visitors sampled the cheeses. The cricket after lunch was nothing like so nourishing for Haines and his players. Fifty minutes after the resumption Nottinghamshire gained a first-innings lead and by then the spinners were on. Mullaney lifted Rawlins over mid-on to go to 150 and then over the long-on boundary to give his side their fifth batting point. It was ruthless stuff and all the more so because there was little obvious striving about it. Twenty-four hours previously Nottinghamshire had been 52 for 4 yet by this third mid-afternoon Sussex did not look like taking a wicket. Both Mullaney and Evison, his eighth-wicket partner, made career-best scores, and for the skipper this meant overhauling the 179 he made against Warwickshire three years ago. The contrasting ages and experience of the teams were suddenly stark.Three balls after tea Mullaney finally miscued a pull and was caught by Crocombe off Atkins for 192. He had batted five minutes over seven hours and one suddenly noticed that Nottinghamshire’s captain is 35 years old. Will he get another opportunity to score a double-century? Then Archie Lenham came to field below the press-box. He looked about 12 but was actually 22 months old when Mullaney made his championship debut for Lancashire in 2006.Our attention switched to Evison, who was suddenly addicted to smacking Rawlins for boundaries, either down the ground or into the Sharks stand at extra-cover. But he brought up his maiden first-class hundred in what is his seventh first-class match with a cut to the backward square boundary off Atkins who, along with Rawlins, had reached his own century shortly before. Crocombe joined them a few overs later and Mullaney declared. We resettled ourselves for what would surely be the tensest cricket of the day…And now the players have left the field and each side knows what it must do tomorrow. Brighton’s ubiquitous restaurants are preparing for their Saturday trade. The April evening settles down with smells of fries in passageways. But in Portland Place and Burlington Street a quiet evening in may be preferable; perhaps an act or two of on Radio Three. The newly washed morning, so recent, so distant, beguiles the memory. “Spring is here and they can’t stop you enjoying it,” wrote George Orwell in 1946. “The earth is still going round the sun, and neither the dictators nor the bureaucrats, deeply as they disapprove of the process, are able to prevent it.”
