Their very own homegrown Tel: Spurs must unleash "fearless" teen phenom

It’s been a bruising season for Tottenham Hotspur this year.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have played some brilliant football here and there, but a torrent of injuries and general inconsistencies see them sitting 14th in the Premier League.

Fortunately, Daniel Levy and Co eventually took advantage of the transfer window and made a few signings to strengthen the squad.

The first player through the door was 21-year-old shot-stopper Antonín Kinský. A few weeks later came experienced centre-back Kevin Danso, who was then followed by the deadline-day arrival of the incredibly exciting Mathys Tel.

However, some might say the club already had their own version of the Frenchman.

Mathys Tel

Why Spurs signed Tel

After it was revealed that Tel had rejected Spurs’ initial offer late last week, it was a real surprise to find out that he’d changed his mind yesterday afternoon and was on his way to join the Lilywhites on a short-term loan deal with an option to buy at £45m.

Mathys Tel

Now, that is undoubtedly a lot of money to spend on a 19-year-old, but there are a likely a couple of reasons why Levy and Co opted to go through with it.

The first is that, when he was given a decent number of minutes by Bayern last season, he was utterly sublime, racking up a sensational tally of ten goals and six assists in 41 appearances, totalling just 1406 minutes.

That means the Sarcelles-born phenom maintained an average of a goal involvement every 2.56 games, or more accurately, every 87.87 minutes of action.

It’s this undeniable quality, plus the fact he is so young, that likely convinced the powers that be at Spurs to potentially commit so much money towards him, as under Postecoglou and alongside the team’s other young prospects like Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, Tel could develop into a world-beater.

With that said, there’s another of the Lilywhites’ young prospects who’s arguably the most exciting and was already their version of Tel prior to the Frenchman’s arrival.

Spurs' own Mathys Tel

So, to get straight to the point, the youngster in question is, of course, Mikey Moore.

The English teenager has been spoken about as one of Tottenham’s next great academy graduates for some time now and was, in a way, the club’s own Tel before the Frenchman himself put pen to paper yesterday afternoon.

There are a couple of reasons why this comparison can be made, and the first is where they have both primarily played in their careers thus far.

For example, despite being able to play across the frontline, the Bayern loanee has just about made more appearances off the left of a front three, which is also the same for the young Englishman, despite him also possessing the ability to play in several positions in attack.

The second similarity is their ability in front of goal, although in this case, we have to judge the North Londoners’ academy star on his time in the youth set-up, as he’s started just six senior games in his career thus far.

With that said, in just 33 appearances across various youth sides, the “fearless” talent, as dubbed by teammate James Maddison, has scored 20 goals and provided 15 assists, which comes to a brilliant average of a goal involvement every 0.94 games.

Add to that the fact he scored ten goals and provided four assists in just 12 caps for England’s U17 side, and it’s crystal clear that the “outstanding” teenager, as dubbed by Postecoglou, is a future superstar.

Ultimately, Spurs have undoubtedly made their squad stronger with the signing of Tel, but it will be incredibly interesting to see who gets more minutes between him and Moore in the coming months, especially if Postecoglou opts to use them both as left-wingers.

Kieron Pollard calls time on IPL career, stays with Mumbai Indians as batting coach

The West Indian allrounder played for the franchise for 13 years, winning five IPL titles with them

Nagraj Gollapudi15-Nov-20224:05

Mumbai pay tribute to Pollard

One of the most enduring relationships between a franchise and a player in the IPL has ended. Five-time champions Mumbai Indians have released Kieron Pollard, their most senior player, to end a 13-year playing career that began in 2010, when they signed Pollard for an undisclosed sum via a tie-breaker that broke the deadlock between four teams. While Pollard said he would be calling time as a player in the IPL, his relationship with Mumbai is not ending: he has joined them as a batting coach and will play for MI Emirates, owned by the same group, in the ILT20 in the UAE.

Pollard is among a small set of players who have represented only one franchise over their entire IPL careers. The others in the list, with a cut-off of at least 100 matches, are Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2008), Sunil Narine (Kolkata Knight Riders from 2011), Jasprit Bumrah (Mumbai from 2013) and Lasith Malinga (who had two stints at Mumbai). It was Pollard’s explosive hitting, athletic fielding, and smarts with the ball during the 2009 Champions League T20 that drew the collective attention of the IPL franchises. While he set his base price at USD 200,000 in the 2010 auction, four franchises – Mumbai, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers and Knight Riders – placed the maximum bid of USD 750,000 for him. Pollard became the first of two players in the IPL [Shane Bond was the second] to be signed via the silent tie-breaker rule, where franchises were asked to list a price on a blank cheque with the highest bid getting the player’s services.

It was a remarkable turn of fortunes for Pollard, the tall and well-built allrounder from Trinidad & Tobago, who had been left “disappointed” just a year earlier when he went unsold at the 2009 auction despite setting a base price of just USD 60,000.In a chat with ESPNcricinfo in 2010, a day after Mumbai paid him a sum estimated to be in seven figures, Pollard said his biggest challenge would be to “sustain what I’ve started as there would be big expectations of me – but cricket is a funny game, it can go any way; I’m just going to go there and play my best.”ESPNcricinfo Ltd

Pollard lived those words, becoming a talismanic figure at Mumbai. Pollard and former Australia allrounder Shane Watson are the only players with 3000-plus runs and 50-plus wickets in IPL. Pollard hit 223 sixes, the fifth-highest in the tournament’s history, won the Player-of-the-Match award on 14 occasions, including in the 2013 final, when Mumbai beat Super Kings to win the first of their five IPL crowns. Pollard entered Eden Gardens when Mumbai were 52 for 4 midway into their innings and scored an unbeaten 32-ball 60.Before every auction, Pollard was an automatic retention for Mumbai, including in 2022, when he was the franchise’s fourth retained player at INR 6 crore (USD 800,000 approx.). But if Pollard needed a reminder about the challenge of “sustaining” his form, it came in IPL 2022. In 11 matches, Pollard scored only 144 runs, and his average of 14.40 and strike rate of 107.46 were his lowest in any IPL season. Things have not improved since then as Pollard underwent a knee surgery during the English summer and then played in the CPL, where he led Trinbago Knight Riders, who failed to make the last four for the first time.As far as Mumbai are concerned, their decision to release Pollard came with the motive of entering the 2023 auction with a bigger purse. Mumbai are known to form long-standing bonds with their players, and Pollard’s transition to the coaching staff came as no surprise.

Man Utd willing to offer blockbuster £125m deal to sign "amazing" PL winner

In what would see INEOS go all out, Manchester United are now reportedly willing to offer a stunning £125m deal to sign a Premier League and World Cup winner for Ruben Amorim.

Man Utd transfer news

Whilst it may seem as though they need a rebuild every two years as another managerial failure arrives, Manchester United arguably need more construction than ever under Amorim.

The former Sporting Club manager arrived to pick up the pieces of Erik ten Hag’s disastrous final few months in charge and quickly realised just how many square pegs he’ll have to work with in a system full of round holes.

Since then, he’s at least welcomed Patrick Dorgu to solve his wing-back problem but there’s still plenty of work to be done at Old Trafford. What’s more, in order to complete that work, Manchester United must sell a number of stars with the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo potentially among those.

It’s only after those sales that the Red Devils can even consider reinforcements, at which point they’re reportedly setting their ambitions as high as ever in pursuit of fresh faces.

According to reports in Spain, Manchester United are now willing to offer a €150m (£125m) deal to sign Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid this summer – just one year on from his Manchester City departure.

After a slow start, the Argentine forward has adjusted to life in Spain and once again firing on all cylinders to attract the attention of the Red Devils. As a former Premier League champion at Manchester City, it’s fair to say that Alvarez would steal plenty of headlines by completing a move to Old Trafford this summer.

Bayern Munich in talks for "brave" Man Utd ace who cost nearly £7m per goal

The Red Devils could seal a much-needed sale…

ByTom Cunningham Feb 15, 2025

As for Amorim, he would be welcoming the perfect player for his 3-4-2-1 system, with Alvarez likely slotting straight into one of the two advanced midfield roles behind the striker, whoever that may be.

"Amazing" Alvarez could come back to haunt Man City

By joining Manchester United, Alvarez would be joining a list which includes both Carlos Tevez and Peter Schmeichel as the latest player to play for both Manchester clubs.

Somewhat breaking the trend, however, the Atletico Madrid man would be going from a City man to an Old Trafford star rather than the opposite path that Tevez and Schmeichel chose.

If Manchester United can afford such a deal, and that’s a big if at this stage, then it’s certainly one they should attempt. Not only would Alvarez finally suit Amorim, but his arrival would also be getting one over on Manchester City, who he could come back to haunt.

Earning plenty of praise from Pep Guardiola during his time at The Etihad, the Spaniard previously told TNT Sports: “Julian is amazing so he’s an extraordinary player and many things help us. Really good, so very pleased for his birthday, not just for the goals, the many things he does.”

Scoring 17 goals and assisting a further four in his debut season for Atletico Madrid, it’s fair to say that Alvarez has remained “amazing” even after leaving Manchester City.

CWI considers hiring interim head coach for SA tour after Simmons leaves

The West Indies selection panel chose Roston Chase over left-arm fingerspinner Gudakesh Motie in the Test squad for the upcoming tour of Australia because they wanted an “offspinner in Australia”, Desmond Haynes, the lead selector, said. Though Rakheem Cornwall, who is also an offspinning allrounder like Chase, was in contention, fitness was one of the reasons for his omission.Jimmy Adams, the director of cricket at CWI, also revealed that they are considering an interim coach until the tour of South Africa, which will run till the end of March, with the current head coach Phil Simmons set to part ways with the team in December.”The situation regarding Roston Chase and Motie is that we as a panel decided that we would go for an offspinner,” Haynes said during a virtual press conference. “That’s the reason why we didn’t include Moti and we decided that Chase was the best person to do the job and that’s what the panel decided.Related

“When you look at someone like Roston Chase, his record in Test cricket has been pretty good. Although he did lose some form, he played a few games against Zimbabwe this year. The panel wanted to go with an offspinner and that’s what really ticked in Roston’s favour. Not just that he would help us in the batting department but also he would be a very good allrounder who can bowl offspin.”Chase is returning from an injury and is the only spin option in the squad which will play two Tests in November-December. He has not played international cricket since turning out for WICB XI against the touring Bangladesh side in a three-day fixture in June. However, he took part in CPL 2022, picking up six wickets in 11 matches for St Lucia Kings and scoring 100 runs in ten innings. Having debuted in 2016, Chase’ last Test came in December 2021 against Sri Lanka in Galle.Meanwhile, Adams, the director of cricket, mentioned that there were “quite a few things” that came into the picture for Cornwall’s selection, including “medical and physical” reasons which is why the CWI waited till Friday to announce the contingent. Cornwall finished as the highest wicket-taker in the four-day championship, with 23 strikes in five matches at an average of 21.47. He revealed that Dominic Drakes was also considered.”It [his selection criteria] included quite a few things – medical and physical, ” Adam said of Cornwall. “But this isn’t the forum to discuss issues of that nature, I can’t give you much information. But all of the information surrounding Rakheem needed to come in for selection.”There was a group of players under consideration for selection. From what I was told from the lead of the panel, [for] Rakheem and Dominic Drakes, we needed information on not just these two but on the group and we decided we wouldn’t make a decision on either players or any of the players until all information that was required came in. And it was not until we had all the information to make a decision, the team didn’t officially go out until Friday because the final selection happened on Friday morning. So we needed information on these players, Rakheem was one of them, and once the information came in, the panel was able to convene and select the squad.”One of the other main talking points from the squad selection is Tagenarine Chanderpaul, the son of former batter Shivnarine, earning his maiden call-up to West Indies’ senior side for the two-match Test series in Australia. Haynes heaped praise on Tagenarine, who he feels has the ability to rise to the challenge and backed him to open with Kraigg Brathwaite.”I believe [Kraigg and Tage can work well together]. I think what you have to take into consideration too is with Tage, a young man, he’s got a very good technique to the new ball which is good,” Haynes said.”He leaves alone very well. When you go to places like Australia, you don’t want to see the number three batsman coming in too early or the number four. So I think he and Kraigg would definitely complement each other because at least they would be looking at what openers should do for a team as well, which is build a foundation for the side so the guys coming in down the order would not get the new ball. I think it’s a good choice of picking the young man. [There is a] no better place to start your cricket career than Australia where a lot of people believe if you do well against Australia then you’re rated.”It’s always been considered a tough place to play cricket and I think he has the ability to do it.”Phil Simmons is set to leave West Indies in December after the tour of Australia•Associated Press

CWI considering an interim coachAdams is hoping that the CWI will have some clarity by the end of this week on whether they will be appointing an interim coach for West Indies’ men’s senior team or multiple coaches for different formats, adding that “those discussions are actually ongoing.”The Australia tour will be Simmons’ last assignment as head coach of West Indies. After West Indies suffered an “unfathomable” first-round exit in the T20 World Cup in the country earlier this month, he had put in his resignation. West Indies’ important assignment next year commences with an all-format tour of South Africa, beginning on February 28 and concluding on March 28.”There are two issues to look at,” Adams said. “Obviously, given the schedule that we have, which is Test cricket in Zimbabwe and South Africa from the end of January right through until (March)…I think the white-ball games against South Africa will go into March. Do we first of all split the roles and how long are we going to give ourselves the time in which to recruit? By that I mean, is it that we are going to do an interim situation maybe until the end of the South Africa (tour) or do we actually start recruiting right away (for a full-time coach).”These are decisions that are before us now and I am hoping that by the end of this week coming that we will have some firm decisions to sort of guide the way forward…these are all the questions being considered right now as we speak.”

Club World Cup Scouting Report: Can USMNT stars Weston McKennie and Tim Weah lead Juventus back to the top?

After a poor continental showing in 2024-25, the Bianconeri look to emerge as contenders in Club World Cup

It's been a troubling trend for Juventus. Always competing for a Serie A title, always flashy at one point or another in European competition – but without a trophy in the domestic league since the 2019-20 season, and without a UCL title since 1996, nearly 30 years.

Once home to Zinedine Zidane, Andrea Pirlo, Gianluigi Buffon and Alessandro Del Piero – all legends of the game – the club has stagnated over the past five years. Could this summer be their return to the top?

Led by U.S. men's national team star Weston McKennie and winger Tim Weah, Juve have a lot of hills to climb. On their third manager since last spring, the Italian club aren't flourishing. They can't seem to find a consistent striker to lead their line, multiple formations have been used amid different coaching philosophies and despite having a plethora of attacking options, they're not scoring at winning rate.

Again, though, it's Juventus. They always manage to impress at some point. The Club World Cup could present them with a sort of reset button. And if they manage to do so? The rest of the field should look out.

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will be played in 12 stadiums in 11 U.S. cities, from the opener on June 14 until the final on July 13. In the U.S., fans can stream or watch matches on DAZN or TNT. Leading up to kickoff, GOAL will provide scouting reports on each of the 32 participating teams in the expanded field.

Next up is Juventus, with a look at key players to watch, and expectations for the Italian side at the tournament.

AFPThe player to watch

Weston McKennie has become a mainstay for Juventus this season, and has been a crucial member of their XI in both central and wide roles. He will be representing the at the Club World Cup rather than at the Gold Cup with the USMNT – as the two tournaments coincide.

A threat on set pieces and physical presence in the middle of the pitch, he's been one of their most reliable players this season.

In the attack, forward Kenan Yildiz has been one of Italy's most electric players in 2024-25. Breaking out with the senior team this season, the Turkey international and 19-year-old budding star has eight goal-contributions in this Serie A campaign.

Getty Images SportRealistic expectations

Realistically, Juventus should be competing for a first-place finish in the group, with advancement to the knockout the bare minimum. As one of two Italian clubs competing in the competition, the will have high expectations.

Both Al Ain and Wydad should be winnable matches, which would virtually guarantee advancement to the next round. Where competition will truly arrive will be against Pep Guardiola and Man City. Both teams primarily use three central defenders, which would make for an interesting attacking affair.

Juve will need to be resilient defensively against the likes of Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Savinho, while their attack will need to be at their best against a physical City side. All-in-all, this is a club that should be aiming for a semifinal spot, if not contending for a CWC title.

Rangers make move to keep £21,000-a-week Ibrox star; they’ve had a reply

Rangers have made a move to retain the services of one of their top attacking players and they have already had a reply, according to a recent report.

Rangers in takeover talks

There has not been much to shout about for the Gers this season, as they are 13 points behind arch-rivals Celtic and have just been knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Queen’s Park. All that Philippe Clement and Rangers have left to focus on is the Europa League, as they find out their last 16 opponents on Friday.

Rangers hit the "jackpot" on Clement signing who's now worth 664% more

Rangers supporters have not enjoyed this season very much at all, but one summer signing has been a star

ByBen Gray Feb 20, 2025

However, off the pitch, things could soon look a lot better, as according to The Daily Record, the 49ers Group are in talks over a possible investment in Rangers. It is reported that top-level discussions began at the turn of the year and now those talks have entered an advanced stage. Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe is a key man behind the investment and there is believed to be another American business mogul involved, with summer spending plans already being made.

It is unclear how much of the club they would be looking to acquire as the deal is rather complicated due to the shareholders already involved in the club. However, if a deal can go through, it would mean Rangers head into the summer with a rather large cash injection.

Rangers make move to keep £21,000-a-week Ibrox star

Before the takeover is even completed, the Gers are already looking to secure the future of one of their key players, as according to Pro Sport relayed by the Daily Record, Rangers have offered Ianis Hagi a new contract, but the Romanian midfielder has turned the offer down.

Hagi’s current deal at Ibrox is set to expire at the end of the season, but Rangers do have the option to extend that by 12 months. However, they are not willing to trigger that option unless Hagi is willing to reduce his terms. The playmaker has revealed that he is open to hearing what the club want to offer for a new longer-term deal, but whatever was on the table has now been turned away by the player.

The 26-year-old, who earns £21,000 a week at Ibrox, looked set to leave the club last summer, as Clement was happy to let him go. However, Hagi wanted to remain at Rangers, and has recently become an important player for the club once again.

Inter Miami player ratings vs New York Red Bulls: Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi both find the back of the net as Herons end winless streak

The Uruguayan forward and the Argentine maestro combined to help Miami to an important three points

Inter Miami returned to winning ways on Saturday as the defeated the New York Red Bulls 4-1 in MLS action. The result snapped a three-match losing streak across all competitions that saw them fall to the Vancouver Whitecaps twice in a two-legged CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinal bout, and once more to FC Dallas on MLS Matchday 10.

Both Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi found the back of the net on Saturday, while the superstar attacking duo were joined by fullback Marcelo Weigandt and winger Fafa Picault with goals as well.

Picault opened the scoring early off a Suarez assist, before Weigandt doubled the lead 30 minutes into the match. The Uruguayan star added a third for Miami before the halftime break, capping off a dominant first half performance.

RBNY did earn a goal back before the midway point of the match, with former Bayern Munich forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting tapping home on the back post – but it was one of very few scoring opportunities for the road side on the day. Miami's fourth, and ultimately the dagger, came from Messi himself as the Argentine scored a lovely solo goal to make it 4-1 with 23 minutes to spare.

It wasn't the best of performances from the reigning league MVP, but he snapped a four-game scoreless streak across all competitions to lift them to victory.

A huge three points, Miami is now on 21 on the season through 10 games played, and sit fourth in the Eastern Conference at the end of the Matchday. After their midweek Champions Cup exit to Vancouver, it was a good rebound performance, and one that has put them back on track for the campaign.

Helped close out the match well with a high-press midfield performance.

    Maxi Falcon (6/10):

Maintained a clean sheet after being subbed on – the best case scenario for a central defender being brought on off the bench.

    Allen Obando (N/A):

Brought on late to close out the game.

    Federico Redondo (N/A):

Subbed on with 13 minutes to spare to run the midfield until the final whistle blew.

    Javier Mascherano (6/10):

A huge win. He got all the subs right and maximized minutes with Suarez on the pitch. However, something was still off.

Miami felt inefficient and broken at times. Multiple people were running into each other's lanes, and a lot of hands and fingers were pointed. It just felt disjointed. Perhaps it's the week they've had, but they lacked cohesion. Against an elite MLS side this season, a performance of this nature likely would not have sufficed.

Zimbabwe's Mukuhlani set to contest ICC chairman election

He believes he has the experience to take over the leadership and become a voice for smaller members and Associates

Nagraj Gollapudi and Tristan Lavalette04-Nov-2022Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani is potentially set to go head to head with the incumbent Greg Barclay in the ICC chairman election scheduled for next weekend. ESPNcricinfo has learned that Mukuhlani, who has been on the ICC board for a long time as the ZC representative, has declared his intention to enter the contest – subject to his getting enough support from the smaller Full Member countries as well as the Associates.ESPNcricinfo recently reported that Imran Khwaja, the ICC deputy chair, was going to stand, but he is believed to have withdrawn. Khwaja suffered a fractious defeat in the 2020 elections against Barclay. Back then, Barclay secured influential support from the BCCI which paved the way for the New Zealander to win by 11 votes to five, in what turned out to be a two-round contest. In July this year, after the ICC annual general meeting, Barclay declared he was ready to contest for a second two-year term. Barclay is believed to be bullish about his prospects, especially as election rules have been tweaked with the winner to be decided on the basis of a simple majority. In 2020 the winning candidate needed a two-third majority from the 16-strong ballot. The 16 votes are from the ICC board of 12 Full Members, one independent director (Indra Nooyi) and three Associate directors which includes Khwaja.Khwaja had received six votes in the first round two years ago, but Cricket South Africa’s vote in the second round tipped the contest in Barclay’s direction. Once beaten, twice shy, Khwaja, one of the most experienced directors on the board, weighed his options and eventually decided not to contest this time, despite having got the mandatory one vote to get nominated. While it could not be confirmed on October 20, the nomination deadline day, Mukuhlani, too, had been proposed by one of the ICC directors. And now he has the second vote, enough to support a nomination. While he is keen to fight the elections, Mukuhlani will likely take a final call in the next week once he senses the kind of support he could expect.Greg Barclay is the current ICC chairman and is looking for another term•Kai Schwoerer/ICC/Getty ImagesMukuhlani is part of the ICC’s Audit Committee and chair of the Membership Committee. He is also part of the global body’s Olympics working group, which is tasked with pushing for cricket’s entry in the Summer Games. Popularly known as ‘Doc’ in ICC circles, Mukuhlani believes he has the experience to take over the leadership and become a voice for smaller members and Associates. He is hedging his chances mainly on getting support from a majority of Asian countries except for the BCCI. At the moment, it is believed that the BCCI vote is leaning towards Barclay, but options remain open till election date. The election is planned to take place during the ICC meetings, scheduled on November 12-13 in Melbourne.Mukuhlani’s manifesto revolves around striving for equity among members and advocating for governance changes. It aligns with the vision Khwaja has had for several years and was to an extent able to put into effect during the four years Shashank Manohar was ICC chairman (2016-20). Both men worked closely to dismantle the Big Three power structure and put in place a fresh financial model where smaller countries received an enhanced share from the ICC revenue pool. That pot has now grown much bigger after Disney Star* bought ICC broadcast rights for men’s and women’s events between 2024-27. The deal, to broadcast in the India market only, is reportedly worth over US$3 billion, considerably more than what the ICC got in the previous rights cycle (which was for eight years, and globally). Barclay, too, is drumming up support and is believed to have put a re-look at the financial distribution model as well as modifying the governance model at the forefront of his strategic plan for a second term. Other than looking at enhancing individual countries’ share of the pie, Barclay wants to invest money in strategic funds as well has promotion of women’s cricket.

“They’re advancing in talks with his representatives and club to club, nothing has been agreed. There’s no decision made on his future. Others are interested in him, such as Girona in Spain, not Manchester City”,

Amid their pursuit of the teenager, Arteta and the Gunners hierarchy are still scouring the market for a prolific forward who can ease the blow left by Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus’ long-term injuries.

The transfer market closes next Monday, so they’ll have to act pretty quickly, but respected transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano says they’re very likely to bring someone in for that area of the squad.

“It’s highly likely,” said Romano on Arsenal’s search for a striker to GiveMeSport. “This is the expectation of Mikel Arteta, so I expect the club to back him and find a solution on the market even if big clubs are not available.”

Many big-name frontmen have been linked with moves to N5 in the last few weeks, but a rumoured summer target in Athletic Bilbao starlet Nico Williams is now believed to be back on their radar before February 3rd.

Arsenal prepared to pay release clause for Nico Williams

The £200,000-per-week Spain star played a role in his country’s triumph at Euro 2024 last summer, bagging a sensational 19 assists in all competitions for Bilbao during the 2024/2025 campaign, and this has turned many heads.

Spain star Nico Williams

As per reports in the Spanish media, Arsenal are prepared to pay Williams’ release clause to sign him from Bilbao this month, which stands at around £49 million.

It is added that the 22-year-old’s profile is exactly what Arteta is looking for, with his outlay of assists and ability to break lines seen as a potentially “key” aspect of their interest in the young attacking sensation.

Williams, called “fantastic” by Jose Mourinho, is also viewed as one of this window’s biggest potential “high-profile” signings, and his future is deemed one to watch in the coming days as he attracts serious interest from north London.
