Charlie Nicholas thinks Crystal Palace could give Manchester City big problems

[ad_pod ]

Crystal Palace shocked the world when they made the trip up to the Etihad Stadium in December to play Manchester City and brought all three points back to south London in sensational fashion – the feat was all the more impressive considering the Eagles had lost their last two away games at the Premier League champions by a scoreline of 5-0.

Andros Townsend’s thunderbolt volley was one in a million and most surely believe that the result was, too, although Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas thinks that it wasn’t a fluke and that Roy Hodgson’s side will cause the frontrunners problems once again when they meet on April 14.

Summarising his predictions for both the Cityzen’s and title-rivals Liverpool’s run-ins, Nicholas had this to say:

“The game at Selhurst Park is slightly awkward as Palace can be dangerous. I can see City just getting through, but I have a question mark beside that one.”

Nicholas opted for a scoreline of 2-1 to City, although Palace, ever the bogey team of the top-six, will fancy themselves given the Boxing Day result and the stalemate played out – which the Eagles should have won – last time they visited SE25.

Did Gareth Southgate pick Kieran Trippier over “the best full-back propsect in the world”? Bhavs makes his case in the video below…

The pride of south London have endured a difficult couple of weeks having been bested by bitter rivals Brighton and then Watford in the FA Cup quarter-finals, although a solid performance – or even better, a win – against Pep Guardiola’s men would surely go a long way in redeeming Hodgson in the eyes of the Palace faithful.

Arijanet Muric can save Manchester City millions of pounds

Things are going very well at Manchester City because not many would have predicted that the Cityzens would still be in with a chance of securing the quadruple this late in the season. Well, aside from the fans reading this, I suppose.

Indeed, for all the quality that is oozing throughout their team in every position, it doesn’t take away from the fact that achieving a four-trophy haul in one season is extremely rare – almost unprecedented – and would take a fantastic club and manager to do exactly that. So, with Pep Guardiola in-charge of a world-class group of footballers, it is no surprise really to see City striving to achieve great things this season.

As good as their current options might be, teams like Manchester City will also be looking to progress the talented players they have in their youth set-ups right now, in a bid to bring through the next generation. How nice does total domination of the footballing scene sound, Sky Blues?

Pretty good.

With a potential transfer ban as well, City may have no other option but to entrust the youth.

In one specific position that shouldn’t be a problem. Ederson has been a very reliable shot-stopper for City but every time Arijanet Muric has been called upon this season, he has also delivered.

Muric, (who is valued at £900k on Transfermarkt) came into the first-team set-up this season after Claudio Bravo sustained an injury at the very beginning of the campaign.

The 20-year-old, relatively unknown to every football fan, has impressed as a number two to Ederson, especially when he was the hero in City’s Carabao Cup progression – after saving two penalties against Leicester. After struggling to replace Joe Hart initially, the arrival of the aforementioned Brazilian and now the rapid rise of Muric will certainly be music to the ears of the City faithful.

And it should be to those making transfer decisions at the Etihad. Rather than move for another ‘keeper, putting their trust in the Kosovo international would save Sheikh Mansour millions in the market.

Claudio Bravo has one year left on his contract but instead of giving time to the 35-year-old, Muric must continue to be trusted in cup competitions and whenever else called upon by Pep Guardiola.

Leeds United fans still annoyed despite Pablo Hernandez Team of the Week nod

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United fans on Twitter are still incensed with the EFL despite Pablo Hernandez earning a spot in Team of the Week.

Hernandez netted a brace to rescue victory for Leeds against Millwall on Saturday which was enough to earn him a spot in this week’s team.

Leeds fans are still furious about the fact Hernandez didn’t make the Team of the Season which was announced by the EFL late last month.

The Spaniard was overlooked in favour of Jarrod Bowen, Oliver Norwood and Leeds teammate Kalvin Phillips but Leeds fans haven’t stopped vocalising their outrage at his omission.

Hernandez has scored 12 and provided 11 assists in the Championship this season as Leeds look for a return to the Premier League after a 15-year absence.

Rather than being happy that their man was included in EFL’s latest edition of Team of the Week, Leeds fans took this opportunity to remind the league that they forgot to put him in the more prestigious Team of the Season.

Here’s what Leeds fans had to say on Twitter…

Jack Grealish would be an amazing capture for Crystal Palace

In what has been a season of complete and utter inconsistency, Roy Hodgson will be hoping he is entrusted to spend over the summer in order to improve his Crystal Palace team. While the Eagles may struggle to spend like some of the other teams in the Premier League, Steve Parish has proven he can let the purse strings loose before and his former England manager certainly has earned the right to ask.

Indeed, their form promised to take a turn when they recruited well in the January transfer window and it sure did.

Michy Batshuayi was exactly the kind of striker fans and management were all craving and his goals and overall presence has improved the team. No longer do the fans reading this have to watch Christian Benteke lumber all over the pitch. That, alone, deserves an awful lot of praise.

But with his stay at Selhurst Park only being on a loan basis, Palace will eventually have to invest in another creative type in the summer to compensate for his omission.

With that in mind, not a striker, but certainly a creative star, Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish would be an amazing option for Roy Hodgson’s side.

Grealish, (who is valued at £18 million on Transfermarkt) is a terrific talent that has started to prove exactly why he has always been dubbed as someone who could make it far in the game. The 23-year-old has managed to bag four goals and four assists this season but his overall creative contribution is what will interest Crystal Palace the most.

Even if his name isn’t on the scoresheet, you can guarantee that Grealish would have been influential for his side, as he does so well to find space, make key passes and be a general nuisance for the opposition to try and defend against. With Villa under potential financial restraint if they don’t go up this season and the hype around Grealish to have died since his failed move to Tottenham, Palace must act.

It may sound a touch ambitious – we get that – but having signed the likes of Max Meyer and kept Wilfried Zaha, the Eagles have proven they can pull that sort of deal off before.

Crystal Palace could have the likes of Zaha and Andros Townsend beside him and what an attacking trio that would be, in-behind a forward. Outside of the top six, it’s hard to see a more exciting line-up.

Crystal Palace, do you think Steve Parish has it in him to make another ambitious signing? Join the discussion by commenting below…

Outrageous: Man City fans criticise Mo Salah after his Sergio Aguero comment

[ad_pod ]

Manchester City fans have taken to Twitter in livid fashion, after Mohamed Salah defended his recent goal drought by pointing to Sergio Aguero’s tally as a reference point.

The Egyptian international hasn’t found the back of the net in his last eight games across all competitions, but has still registered 17 Premier League goals for the season – just two behind leading scorer Aguero’s 19 strikes.

442oons have charted the entire career of Man City’s main man Sergio Aguero through song in the hilarious video below…

Salah is some way off his 32-goal haul from the previous campaign – a Premier League record – although it would be unfair to say that he is having a bad season, such was his freakish brilliance last term.

The 26-year-old’s comments after the dramatic 2-1 win over Tottenham somewhat suggest that the drought may be getting to him.

Defending his recent barren spell, Salah said: “There are three or four players that no one is talking about or just saying they are having a good season while I am the only one who is having a bad season.

“Aguero has two goals over me and they say it is one of the best seasons so far.”

It is hardly a swipe at the Argentine striker from Salah, but many City fans on Twitter still haven’t taken kindly to the former Basel forward’s comments on their prolific No.10…

Paulo Dybala can bring the glory days back to Old Trafford

Imagine the impact signing Paulo Dybala would have on Manchester United! Excitement is just about back at Old Trafford and a major signing like the Juventus ace could get the place rocking again.

The United faithful saw him score the only goal as Juventus beat United 1-0 in the Champions League group stage, but they could be about to see him swap sides if reports in Corriere Dello Sport (via the Metro) are to be believed. They say the Old Lady want £103m for their star man, with United, City and Madrid all interested.

Until Ole Gunnar Soskjaer’s appointment, the red side of Manchester was a snooze-fest. Both Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho bored their fans to tears and they weren’t afraid to express it. Things are different now though, and whoever gets the manager’s job in the summer will look to build on the last few months’ excitement.

Dybala’s one of those players that’d add the extra excitement United have been missing. Players like himself, Paul Pogba and Neymar have an aura of unpredictability about them that supporters just love. He could give the fans and the players the boost they need to challenge for titles again.

Yes, the fee would be astronomical, but if he’s the key to getting United back to the top of the Premier League and challenging for the Champions League, it’d be worth every penny to the fans and the money men on the board. The last five years haven’t been good enough by United’s standards, so they have to fix it quickly.

Indeed, he scored against the Red Devils at Old Trafford in the Champions League earlier this season so fans may not exactly have the fondest memories, though his quality was certainly on show.

Such a massive signing would re-announce United as a footballing superpower on the pitch and not just commercially. It’d keep the fans’ excitement from dying down to 2014-2018 levels, and could just bring success back to Old Trafford once again.

United fans, who do you think your club should sign in the summer? Join the discussion by commenting below.

Haven’t scored from a corner since! Celtic fans react to club’s Sutton tweet

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Celtic fans have been reacting to a club tweet about Chris Sutton, which appears to have highlighted a major flaw that has plagued the Bhoys for over a decade.

As the season draws to a close, the anniversaries of some of Celtic’s finest moments come thick and fast.

Wednesday marked 16 years since Henrik Larsson scored in a 1-1 draw against Boavista in the UEFA Cup semi-final – the Swede of course scored again in the second leg to take the Bhoys through to the final.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…

And 24 hours later, the club tweeted out another iconic moment, reminiscing about Sutton’s thumping header in the 2005 Scottish Cup semi-final.

Sutton struck in the third minute against Hearts before Craig Bellamy bagged in the second half to win 2-1, and the Hoops beat Dundee in the final courtesy of Alan Thompson’s goal.

Fans have all noticed the same thing from the clip of Sutton though – they actually scored from a corner.

Set pieces are a huge source of goals for most sides but the Bhoys struggle to bag from them, and loads of fans have been sharing the same complaint.

Have a look at the Twitter reactions down below, where fans are convinced their set pieces have been useless for 14 years…

Not bothered: Sheffield Wednesday fans react to latest Onomah setback

[ad_pod ]

According to a report in The Sheffield Star, Sheffield Wednesday loanee Josh Onomah has suffered yet another injury setback after dislocating his elbow in training on Friday, but these Owls fans don’t really seem that bothered.

An England Under-21 international who did well in a similar temporary spell with Aston Villa last season, there would have been high hopes that the Tottenham youngster could make a big impact at Hillsborough this term, but it just hasn’t happened with no goals and three assists thus far.

The 21-year-old has only appeared in 12 Championship games and the Wednesday faithful clearly haven’t been impressed with what they have seen from the midfielder, with three of those that replied when Star journalist Dom Howson tweeted the story suggesting the latest blow should see the club look into terminating the deal.

It is a shame in many ways that he looks set to lose his big chance to work under Steve Bruce, who admitted, via The Sheffield Star last week, that he is a “big admirer” of Onomah.

Many Sheffield Wednesday fans – and who can blame them – clearly aren’t convinced though with one saying they “would hardly call it a blow”, and if he requires surgery on his elbow then he may potentially already have made his last appearance in a blue and white shirt.

Here is just a selection of the reaction to Howson’s Twitter post…
